    Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for populating content item metadata are described herein. The system receives a content item. The system then receives at the user device selections of identifier tags that are indicative of the source or context of the content item. The system updates at the server the content item along with the metadata and stores it for retrieval. In response to the user device receiving a second content item determined to be the same as the first content item, the system replaces the second content item with a link to the first content item. Once a user interaction with the link is detected, the system may follow the link to generate for display the content item.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for presenting a focused display of content. A content item is generated for display and an index map is received for the content item. The index map correlates the content item, for example, a region of the content item, to the focused content. A focus indicator can be simultaneously displayed with the content item to inform a viewer of the availability of the focused content. A selection to present the focused content is received and in response, and based on the index map, the focused content is generated for display, thereby enabling a viewer to have a personalized viewing experience.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a gear-based user interface for display are disclosed. A user equipment device may generate for display a first gear shape, a second gear shape, and a third gear shape. The first gear shape comprises a first plurality of media identifiers, where a first media identifier of the first plurality is selected. The second gear shape comprises a second plurality of media identifiers that are representative of a group indicated by the selected first media identifier, where a second media identifier is selected. The third gear shape comprises a third plurality of options for a media asset indicated by the selected second media identifier. Upon input indicating that the first gear shape is to be rotated, the second gear shape is rotated with the first gear shape based on the rotation of the first gear shape.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for inserting auxiliary content slots within portions of media assets determined to be of interest to users. Segments of a media asset being viewed by a user are identified as being of particular interest to the user, with reference to a stored set of user preferences. User preferences may be consulted to determine which of these segments may be of likely interest to the viewer. Slots for auxiliary content, such as an advertisement, are then added to those segments deemed to be of likely interest. Auxiliary content such as ads may accordingly be displayed to a user at points within media assets at which the user is more likely to be paying attention, increasing the likelihood that auxiliary content will be viewed and perhaps interacted with by the user.
