    摘要： A can opener includes a pair of pivoted handle members (101), (102), associated with a drive wheel (108) and a cutting wheel (111), which are brought into a position to nip the rim of a can when the handles are closed. The nip on the can is not lost when the handle members are partially opened to an intermediate position. As shown the cutting wheel is pivotally mounted on a rotatable carrier (112) in the handle (101) and has a projection (104) entering a recess (105) in the handle (102). The recess allows the handle (102) to move between the closed and intermediate positions without disturbing the carrier (112). Closing the handle (102) drives a drive shaft (110) carrying the wheel (108) through gearing (153), (154), (155). A one-way clutch spring (116) slips when the handles open so that repeated opening and closing of the handles cuts round the can.

    摘要： A cigarette dispenser useful for aiding a person to stop smoking utilizes a movable belt for the controlled dispensing of cigarettes. The belt has openings therein which sequentially expose the open ends of cartridge compartments containing cigarettes to permit the cigarettes to be dispensed one at a time. A timing unit in the dispenser locks movement of the belt for periods of time during which the smoker is not permitted to smoke. Actual advancement of the belt is effected by the smoker at his leisure after receiving a signal signifying the end of the non-smoking period. The timing unit is in a controlled central processing unit capable of progressively increasing the duration of non-smoking periods during the course of the quitting routine.

    摘要： A monitoring device is in communication with a computer, including a memory, over a first network. The computer is further in communication with a server over a second network. A method for providing device information from the monitoring device to the server includes accessing a device web page stored on the monitoring device using a browser application operating on the computer. The monitoring device measures a utility characteristic and stores data indicative of the utility characteristic on a memory. The method further includes receiving a file from the monitoring device, including the device information. The device information includes at least device model information that identifies a model or type of the monitoring device. The method further includes storing the file in the memory of the computer, accessing a server web page stored on the server using the browser application operating on the computer, and transmitting the file to the server.

    摘要： A technique for allowing customers to control a video network. A network controller receives a request from an end user for a video connection between a first port and a second port. The request may specify at least a start time, an end time, the first port and the second port. A plurality of available routes between the first port and the second port may be analyzed to determine at least one selected route that will be used to connect the first port and the second port. A first command may be sent to automatically connect the first port and the second port via the at least one selected route at the start time. While in progress, the video connection may be modified according to system availability. Customers may have a view of all requests that have been made, completed or reserved for in the future.
