摘要： A picture element electrode is divided into sub picture element electrodes by slits extending obliquely. Further, a control electrode is formed over an auxiliary capacitance bus line. Part of the sub picture element electrodes overlaps the control electrode and is capacitively coupled to the control electrode. The control electrode and the source electrode of a TFT are connected through an interconnection. Part of the sub picture element electrodes is electrically connected to the interconnection. Further, part of the sub picture element electrodes is electrically connected to an interconnection extending from the control electrode.

摘要： The liquid crystal display comprises a first substrate 2 including a first pixel electrode 12a and a second pixel electrode 12b, a second substrate 4 with an opposed electrode 22 formed on, and a liquid crystal layer 6 sealed between the first substrate 2 and the second substrate 4. The thickness d1 of the liquid crystal layer 6 on the first pixel electrode 12a in the first pixel region 8R, 8G is larger than the thickness d2 of the liquid crystal layer 6 on the second pixel electrode 12b in the second pixel region 8B. The first pixel region 8R, 8G includes a first partial region 11a, and a second partial region 13a where the threshold voltage is higher than in the first partial region 11a. The second pixel region 8B includes a third partial region 11b, and a fourth partial region 13b where the threshold voltage is higher than in the third partial region 11b. The threshold voltage in the first partial region 11a and the threshold voltage in the third partial region 11b are equal to each other, and the threshold voltage in the second partial region 13a and the threshold voltage in the fourth partial region 13b are equal to each other. Thus, it is possible to prevent large changes in the chromaticity due to gradation and visual angle changes, which lead to the prevention of the occurrence of the coloring. Thus, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal display having good display quality.

摘要： The invention relates to a transflective liquid crystal display capable of display in both of transmissive and reflective modes and a method of manufacturing the same and provides a transflective liquid crystal display which can achieve high display characteristics in both of the transmissive and reflective modes. A configuration is employed which includes a liquid crystal display panel having a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer sealed between the substrates, a pixel region including a reflective area having a reflector for reflecting light entering from the side of one of the pair of substrates and a transmissive area for transmitting light entering from the side of the other of the pair of substrates toward the one of the pair of substrates, a backlight unit having a reflector and a light guide plate for reflecting the light which has entered the transmissive area from the side of the one of the pair of substrates and which has been transmitted by the area to cause the light to enter the transmissive area again from the side of the other of the pair of substrates, and a color filter layer formed only in the transmissive area of the pixel region.

摘要： A slit pattern, which is an orientation control element extending in an oblique direction relative to an edge of a pixel electrode on a surface of a TFT substrate, is formed in the pixel electrode to extend in a substantially parallel direction to an extending direction of a bank-shaped pattern. Furthermore, as an orientation control element, fine slit patterns (concave portions in the pixel electrode) are formed locally in a part near the edge of the pixel electrode except in the pixel electrode to extend in an oblique direction relative to an extending direction of the edge.

摘要： Fine electrode patterns pattern-formed in the shape of fine teeth of a comb bilaterally symmetrical with respect to band-shaped portions are formed at even intervals in a pixel electrode, and band-shaped dielectric layers are pattern-formed at even intervals to cover the fine electrode patterns in a display pixel. By the existence of the dielectric layer and the fine electrode pattern complementing this, a portion formed with these layer and fine electrode pattern is a high threshold voltage region, and relatively, a low threshold voltage region where the dielectric layer does not exist is formed. By the aforementioned construction, it becomes possible to improve a delay in response speed at low gray levels and increase the speed of halftone response, whereby a very reliable image display having moving image performance almost equal to that of a CRT is realized.

摘要： The invention relates to a liquid crystal display device used as a display part of an information equipment and a method of manufacturing the same, and has an object to provide the liquid crystal display device which can obtain excellent display characteristics without raising the manufacture cost and the method of manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates disposed to be opposite to each other, a liquid crystal sealed between the pair of substrates and aligned almost vertically to the substrate when a voltage is not applied, a pair of quarter-wave plates respectively disposed at outer sides of the pair of substrates, a pair of polarizing plates respectively disposed at outer sides of the pair of quarter-wave plates, and a pixel area including a reflection area provided with a reflecting plate having an almost flat reflecting surface and for reflecting light incident from one of the substrates, and a transmission area for causing light incident from the other of the substrates to be transmitted toward the one of the pair of substrates.

摘要： A polyimide film is formed in only the peripheries of picture elements defined by gate bus lines and data bus lines. The areas where the polyimide film is formed have higher thresholds of transmittance-voltage (T-V) characteristics than the areas without polyimide films. Discolor can be suppressed by providing a plurality of areas having different T-V characteristics within each picture element as described above.
