An apparatus for detecting one or more contours of an image formed on a screen. The apparatus comprises a scanner for raster scanning pixels located on scan lines extending in paralllel with each other in the X direction of a two-dimensional coordinate system to successively produce binary pixel data regarding the scanned pixels. The binary pixel data have a first value representing a background forming pixel or a second value representing an object forming pixel. The binary pixel data are transferred to a pixel data matrix stored therein. The pixel data matrix includes pixel data regarding two adjacent pixels located on the next scan line. The latter two adjacent pixels are respectively adjacent to the former two adjacent pixels in the Y direction of the two-dimentional coordinate system. The apparatus also comprises a processing circuit which receives the pixel data matrix transferred thereto from the pixel data matrix forming circuit for producing data indicating the image contour(s).

A reactive power processing circuit for a current source GTO invertor in which a reactive current generated from a load of the GTO invertor is rectified by means of a fly wheel circuit and is sent to a capacitor so as to store a commutation surge voltage generated whenever a commutation of the invertor occurs, an excessive charge voltage across the capacitor is regenerated to a direct current output side of a power rectifier, and a pair of GTO (Gate Turn Off Thyristors) thyristors are connected between the capacitor and the direct current output side of the power rectifier in their forward directions so as to carry out a discharge operation for the excessive charge voltage across the capacitor. Consequently, with the number of circuit elements remarkably reduced, the reactive power processing at times of a high-frequency operation and acceleration/deceleration (variable speed) operation of the invertor can be achieved.

Furthermore, at least one timer is provided in the controller which outputs an interrupt signal so that an interrupt program is executed for controlling an on-and-off period of steering and/or movement motor chopper circuit with the main program being temporarily halted.

An unmanned vehicle is so controlled as to travel along a guide line in response to command signals transmitted from a fixed host computer. The vehicle includes a driving motor, a steering motor, a driving motor chopper, a steering motor chopper, a speed detector, an offset (misalignment away from the guide line) detector, a main CPU, etc. Since detected offset values are directly feedbacked to the main CPU through a steering control interface and the steering motor chopper is directly controlled by the main CPU through the steering interface, it is possible to eliminate other CPUs conventionally provided for turning on or off both the choppers, separately. Further, since the duty ratio of the steering motor chopper is controlled by taking into account various factors such as offset values, offset increment values, vehicle speeds, steering correcting directions, etc., it is possible to stably correct vehicle steering misalignment at high response speed even when the vehicle is travelling at high speed along the guide line.

The steering misalignment (offset) of the vehicle is corrected by a steering DC motor driven by an AC current, the duty ratio of which is adjusted by a steering motor chopper circuit. Since dead zones within which the misalignment is no longer corrected and duty ratio calculating expression on which chopper duty ratio is determined according to a detected offset are both classified by vehicle speed, it is possible to stably correct vehicle steering misalignment at high response speed even when the vehicle is travelling at high speed along the guide line. Further, when the dead zone and the calculating expression are both classified by discriminating an initial offset from the succeeding offset, it is possible to not only to prevent the vehicle from travelling zigzag along the guide line, but also to reduce the number of rush currents generated in the chopper circuit.

The interrupter includes a metal end plate constituting part of its vacuum envelope, and a coil disposed outside the vacuum envelope and near the metal end plate and generating an axial magnetic field parallel to a path of an arc in an arcing gap between a pair of separable contact within the vacuum envelope. The contact near the coil is made of a material superior in interruption performance to the end plate and is mounted with a clearance onto the end plate. The clearance is at least 2 mm and at most 30% of the diameter of the coil-side contact.

Contact materials of a vacuum interrupter and producing process therefor are disclosed. The contact materials provide a contact which is much high in relatively large current and small lagging and leading current interrupting capabilities and dielectric strength while a little in an anti-welding capability down. The contact materials are composed of between 20 and 70 weight % copper, between 5 and 70 weight % molybdenum and between 5 and 70 weight % chromium. The contact material is produced by diffusion bonding a mixture of molybdenum powder and chromium powder into a porous matrix and infiltrating the matrix with copper. Alternatively, the contact materials may be produced by sintering a mixture of three metal powders.

In order to define the contour of an ellipse, it is necessary to determine five unknown parameters in the general equation representative of centered conics. When directly applying Hough transformation method to the above equation, since a five-dimensional space is required, it is practically impossible to detect an ellipse because a long processing time and a great amount of memory capacity are inevitably required. To overcome these problems, the geometric properties of an ellipse are determined separately on three parameter sub-spaces obtained on the basis of edge vector field: two-dimensional center histogram and two-dimensional (H, B) histogram, one-dimensional C histogram. A peak value on the center histogram represents a group of ellipse having the same center locations; a peak value on the (H, B) histogram represents a group of concentric ellipse having the same eccentricity and axis slope; a peak value on the C histogram defines a single ellipse. By sequentially selecting these peaks in the three sub-spaces, it is possible to define geometric properties of an ellipse under practical processing conditions. In order to define a plurality of ellipses efficiently, several novel methods have been adopted: separation of the rotation directions of edge vector field, recovery of edge vectors having no mate edge vectors; adoption of least mean square method, etc., in particular.

Plural series of digital pattern data are determined by PWMing a sine wave by a triangular wave and further classified into each series by the number of triangles included within a half cycle of the sine wave. An appropriate series of data are selected according to a frequency command. The selected data are further adjusted in response to a voltage control command. On the basis of the selected and adjusted pattern data and in response to a half period signal of triangular wave and triangle slope signals, a PWMed pulse is generated through a logical circuit. In the case where the generator is incorporated with an induction motor driving system, it is possible to control speed (frequency), torque (voltage), rotational directions, and torque fluctuations (phase difference) of an induction motor accurately at high response speed.
