Aluminum scrap cut by the trimming apparatus can be crushed or sheared to dimensions taken as aluminum product raw material utilized in shearing apparatus. As a result, the aluminum waste is cut from the aluminum casting completely automatically, and the cut aluminum waste can be adopted as aluminum product raw material.

The method includes the steps of stopping the cutting devices from cutting the raw steel strip when only one of the cutting devices is engaged in trimming the raw steel strip; automatically punching first and second starter punch openings through the raw steel strip, each of the first and second starter punch openings being adjacent to one of the elongated edges of the raw steel strip and directly opposite each other, the first starter punch opening extending in a first distance from one of the elongated edges and the second starter punch opening extending in a second distance from the other elongated edge of the raw steel strip; and advancing the first and second starter punch openings in the raw steel strip to the cutting devices to allow the raw steel strip to realign and to re-establish trimming on both sides of raw steel strip in the cutting assembly.

    摘要: A side trimmer shear for metallic strip and the like travelling along a pass line including gear housings on opposite sides of the strip as it passes along the pass line. Means are provided for varying the angular positions of the gear housings with respect to the pass line. Upper and lower shear knives are carried on the gear housings for engaging and trimming the edges of the strip; while a rigid shaft extends between the gear housings. Gearing is carried within the gear housings for driving the shear knives; while a gear mounted on splines on the drive shaft is provided with gear teeth with curved side walls which permit angular variation of the positions of the gear housings with respect to the rigid drive shaft. The apparatus also includes chopper rolls carried on the gear housings which are driven by a similar rigid drive shaft and a gear provided with curved side walls. Since the gear on the drive shaft is connected to the drive shaft through a splined connected, movement of the gear housings toward or away from each other is facilitated to accommodate varying strip widths.

    摘要: A system for trimming the edges of a metal strip and chopping the trimmed metal into small pieces. The system includes an automatic twin-edge trimmer, two chutes fastened to the trimmer and a scrap chopper. The twin-edge trimmer comprises two sets of coacting rotary slitter knives, one set for each edge of the strip and a backup roll adjacent to each knife in order to hold the strip flat while the cuts are being made. There are two mirror image chutes, each of which receives trimmings from one edge of the strip. Each chute is shaped and fastened to the trimmer in such a way that it completely surrounds the trim cut by the edge trimmer. The chutes are inclined downwardly at an angle with respect to the plane of the strip that matches that of the trimmings. The scrap chopper receives trim from both chutes and cuts the trim into small pieces. One edge trimmer is mounted for lateral movement with respect to the strip during trimming to provide an "on-the-fly" adjustment in the width of the strip thus trimmed.

    摘要: Battery grid plate castings are trimmed in a two-step operation. Each plate moves flat along a horizontal or inclined path against a first stop bar. One of two trim blades on a reciprocating upper die block then shears flashing from the leading end of the plate during a downward stroke of the die. Then the stop bar raises during the upward stroke of the die, and the plate moves forwardly against a second stop. Upon the next downward die stroke the second trim blade shears flashing from the trailing edge of the plate. During the next upward stroke, the fully trimmed plate moves forwardly onto a stacking device. As the leading end of one plate is trimmed at the first trim station, the trailing end of a preceding plate is trimmed at the second trim station. The second stop is easily moved to different stop positions along the path of travel of the plates to change the distance between such stop and the second trim blade and thereby enable trimming plates of different lengths without changing dies.

    摘要: The disclosure of this invention relates to a shear for side trimming or dividing steel plates produced by a rolling mill. It illustrates and describes a stationary lower knife head to which there is secured a lower knife and a vertically movable upper knife head that support an upper knife. The upper knife head is connected to a crank shaft by pitmans and through which means the upper knife is moved towards and away from the lower knife to effect a cut. The path of the shearing and return stroke of the upper knife head is controlled so that during the cutting portion of the shearing stroke, the upper knife is caused to move perpendicular to the plate over the entire range of plate thicknesses adapted to be sheared, and immediately thereafter, at the commencement of the return stroke, the upper knife is displaced away from the sheared edge of the plate. This control is achieved by providing a pair of trunnions pivotally connected to the upper knife head in which the upper knife head is urged against a knife action control guiding surface during the shearing stroke and displaced laterally immediately after shearing and during the first portion of its return stroke in a manner that the lower portion of the head is tilted away from the sheared edge of the plate. A piston cylinder assembly connected to the upper knife head is employed to assist in the positioning of the head in timed sequence with the rotation of the crank.
