The invention relates to a shearing machine for transversally dividing especially a heavy steel plate, said shearing machine comprising an upper blade (3) which carries out a rolling cutting movement by means of an eccentric drive (8) and is held in a blade carrier (1), and a lower blade (4) which is arranged in the frame of the shearing machine (2) in a fixed manner, the upper blade carrier (1) being displaceably connected to a stand (6) of the shearing machine frame (2) by means of an articulated guiding element (5). A device for the clocked advance of a pre-determinable length of the steel plate is associated with the shearing machine, especially in the form of at least one driving element. The aim of the invention is to improve the stability of the shearing machine and thus the quality of the cut. To this end, the shearing machine is arranged between lateral stands (6, 6′) of the shearing machine frame (2) which is closed by an upper traverse (7) and a lower traverse (7′). The eccentric drive (8, 8′) of the upper blade (3) is arranged in the upper region of said frame, and bearings (10, 10′) and driving bodies (11) of lower driving rolls (12, 12′) are arranged in the lower region of said frame, in addition to a lower blade table (9) which is anchored between the stands (6, 6′).

The guide arms are moved in unison so that the axial position and the skew angle of each of the saw blades can be changed in unison before and during sawing operations.

A low cost, modular, top adjustable slitter/perforator accessory for a machine that feeds paper to an output station is disclosed. The slitter/perforator is positioned just prior to the output station and when actuated places desired combinations of slits and/or perforations in paper passing through it. The accessory allows infinite location adjustments of slits and/or perforations along the width of paper by an operator while the machine continues to transport the paper. The slitter/perforator is automatically shut off when paper is directed to the machine's finisher.

Scrap newspapers in tabloid format, or standard straight broadsheet format are cut into a multiplicity of bits, the dimensions predictably and consistantly controlled to insure the paper bit production of substantially uniform and optimally acceptable sizes (length and width) most suitable for the type of end product use intended. This permits the selective production of shredded paper products customized to meet a particular end use, for example bedding material particularly suited for large animal bedding or bedding materials more suitable for small animals such as poultry and/or agricultural mulches.

As a pair of rotary shafts rotate, tool heads mounted thereon and each carrying a tool rotate, so that the tools work the web of corrugated fiberboard fed between them as required. When a transfer unit is operated with the tool head supporting plate coupled with the position adjusting member carrying a tool head, they move together axially along the rotary shafts, so that a pair of the tools will be moved simultaneously to a desired position.

A system for positioning a plurality of carriages to preselected positions across a supported article includes moving a train of detachably interconnected carriages with an engine carriage functionally connected to a driving facility, and simultaneously detaching selected ones of the carriages from the train at predetermined positions across the article, in a sequential manner, beginning with the selected carriage farthestmost from the engine carriage, and holding the selected carriages to a member bridging the article. The positioning cycle is completed by stopping the engine train at its preselected position. Thereafter, a work operation is performed on the article by moving a work operation performing means associated with each of the selected carriages from an inoperative or retracted position to an extended or operative position.
