Abstract: A hybrid gas sampling device can combine the functionality of both whole air and sorbent based samplers. The sampling device can be used for collecting light to very heavy organic compounds, for subsequent thermal desorption into a GC or GCMS for quantitative measurement. The sampling device isolates collected samples of gas phase matrices in a sample vessel, provided with sorbent elements from a removable sample extraction device. The sampling device is operated by drawing a vacuum on the chamber through the sample extraction device after sampling, and then completing the extraction of the heavier organic compounds using a static, diffusive extraction under vacuum to allow optimal deposition of the heavier compounds on the sorbent. The vacuum container is cooled to draw any excess water back into the container, thereby dehydrating attached sorbent element(s) in preparation for thermal desorption into a GC or GCMS, eliminating interferences in the MS analyzer.

Abstract: An alcohol detector includes a detecting section, a display section, a communication section, and a controller. The detecting section performs alcohol concentration detection in exhaled breath blown by a subject. The communication section communicates with a prescribed external device performing image capture of the subject who blows the exhaled breath. The controller causes the detecting section to perform the alcohol concentration detection and transmits a detection result of the alcohol concentration detection to the prescribed external device via the communication section. The controller causes the display section to display an image including identification information indicating the alcohol detector during image capture of the subject in a time from a start of the alcohol concentration detection to transmission of the detection result.

Abstract: A pump-less breath analysis device regulates the flow of breath past a nanoparticle sensor (or other semiconductor sensor) by dynamically adjusting the state or position of a valve as the user exhales into the device. The valve controls the flow of incoming breath between two flow paths: a venting path through which breath exits the device without passing by the nanoparticle sensor, and a sensing path that includes the nanoparticle sensor. In some embodiments, the valve is controlled by a processor that monitors pressure produced by the user's exhalation force. Based on these real-time pressure measurements, the processor adjusts the valve to maintain the pressure, and thus the flow rate, in the sensing path within a desired range. The processor may also use the pressure measurements to determine whether the characteristics of the user's exhalation are sufficient to generate a valid measurement.

Abstract: Disclosed are implementations of a detection device configured to detect flatulence. In particular, it is envisioned that the detection device will be used to detect patient flatulence after gastrointestinal surgery. In this way, healthcare providers can be certain the GI tract is properly functioning prior to patient discharge. An example detection device comprises: a control unit that includes a visual display; a gas sensor configured to detect at least one volatile organize compound found in flatulence; and a cable extending between the control unit and the gas sensor that is configured to electrically connect the gas sensor to the control unit. The cable is also configured to allow the gas sensor to be positioned near the anus of a patient; the visual display of the control unit is configured to provide a visual indicator when a volatile organize compound found in flatulence is detected by the gas sensor.

Abstract: A breath alcohol measurement device has a sample collector (1) with a sample inlet (2) configured for a contactless introduction of a breath sample. A measurement unit (9) has a sensor (16) that generates a measurement signal based on an alcohol content in the breath sample. A control and evaluation unit (4) determines the alcohol content based on the measurement signal and transmits a result-specific signal to an output unit (5). Some of the breath sample provided into the sample inlet (2) is applied, at least intermittently via a main flow duct (10), to the sensor (16) via a measurement gas duct (21) that is connected via an outlet to the environment (7). Between the sample inlet (2) and the outlet of the main flow duct there is a further outflow opening (6) through which some of the breath sample introduced into the sample inlet exits into the environment.

Abstract: A rapid testing mechanism for respiratory viral pathogens includes a filter material positioned to capture exhaled breath particles from a respiratory tract. A portion of the filter material is impregnated with a pathogen binding adsorptive reagent. When the exhaled breath particles pass through the filter material the following occurs: when the binding adsorptive reagent reacts, a positive test for respiratory viral pathogens is indicated by the filter material; and when pathogen binding adsorptive reagent does not react, a negative test for respiratory viral pathogens is indicated by the filter material.

The gas analyzer further includes a first IR detector, a second IR detector, and a beam splitter. The beam splitter is configured to receive the two different wavelengths of radiation emitted by the emitter and to split the two wavelengths of radiation so as to reflect the first IR wavelength to the first IR detector and reflect the second IR wavelength to the second IR detector.
