In a heating apparatus including a plate-shaped positive temperature coefficient thermistor having a pair of electrode films, a pair of terminal plates of an elastic metal material are provided on the pair of electrode films of the thermistor, and there is further provided a spacer including a mounting through-hole which passes through the spacer in a thickness direction thereof. The spacer receives the thermistor in the mounting through-hole so as to position the thermistor therein between the pair of terminal plates. Each terminal plate comprises at least one extending portion extending in a longitudinal direction thereof from one portion of one end thereof, and the extending portion comprises a stopper piece which is folded toward the spacer, the stopper piece including a hook-shaped engaging stopper at an end of the stopper piece. Furthermore, the spacer comprises an engaging through-hole formed at a position corresponding to the engaging stopper of the stopper piece of each of the pair of terminal plates and the engaging through-hole passes through the spacer in the thickness direction thereof. The pair of terminal plates are elastically urged toward the pair of electrode films of the thermistor, and each engaging stopper is inserted into a corresponding engaging through-hole so as to engage in the spacer.

The method of assembly results in a quick and easy assembly process without compromising the integrity of the transfer of heat to the housing. An evaporator structure comprises a heating tube and a refrigerant tube. The heating tube contains a heating wire, and at least the refrigerant tube contains heat exchange fins. The tubes and fins are of one-piece extruded construction. The evaporator structure is bent to form straight sections interconnected by curved sections. Along the curved sections the tubes are spaced apart to define air-conducting paths. The fins may alternatively be formed in a plate which interconnects the tubes.

A positive-temperature-coefficient (PTC) thermistor heating element in which joints between metal heat radiating means and the electrodes on a positive-temperature-coefficient thermistor element are attained only with an electrically insulative adhesive in such a way that prior to and during the curing step, the heat radiating means are pressed against the electrodes to establish thereby electrical contacts at least partially between them. The heat radiating means also function as current paths to and out, respectively, of the thermistor element. The PTC thermistor heating device is simple in construction and easy to fabricate at less cost yet has a high and stable thermal output.

An electric convection and radiation heater for domestic use has a series of heating resistors completely embedded in a solid heat conducting material which adheres to the surface of trapezoidal corrugations of a convection and radiation plate. Each resistor comprises a single length of wire positioned at the summit of a corrugation and coextensive in length therewith. The heat conductive material fills only a minor portion of the depth of each corrugation in covering relation to the resistor therein. The heat conductive material can comprise a hardenable binder such as an epoxy resin containing at least 60 percent by weight of graphite, copper or aluminum powder. The bases of the corrugations are spaced apart a distance greater that the width of the summits.

An electrical resistance heater is disclosed in an elongated tubular form wherein at least one resistance heating unit is coiled within a tubular housing. The resistance heating units include a coiled metallic sheath containing an internally coiled resistance wire that is fixed in the sheath by a mass of magnesium oxide. The heating units are similarly fixed in the tubular housing. Heating units coiled with a variable pitch and plural heating units of different characteristics are disclosed to accomplish different heat zones within the apparatus.
