    摘要: A self-limiting heater and method for building the self-limiting heater are disclosed. The self-limiting heater consists of a resistor and a PTC resistor coupled together in series with a power supply. Both resistive devices have good thermal coupling. The resistor has a minimal resistance change over changes in temperature while the resistance of the PTC resistor increases with an increase in temperature. The ohmic resistance ratio between the resistor and the PTC may be used to adjust the heater characteristics and limit the characteristic sharpness.

    摘要: The present invention involves calibrating a control system to enable resistance-based control of a heat tracing circuit, that includes characterizing a piece of heat trace to determine a relationship between resistance and temperature, allowing for more precise control. Also described are different methods for practical resistance-based control of a heat trace system. Further described are several methods to monitor heat trace: including methods to enhance monitoring capabilities using a system operating model; comparison to historical operating data; and inclusion of information from external sources. Also provided is a method by which a piece of heat trace of unknown length and power factor can be controlled using the resistance-based method when other system information is available.

    摘要: A PTC heating device has a frame surrounding an accommodation space, at least one PTC element accommodated in the accommodation space, and conductor elements, which are connected to the PTC element in an electrically conductive manner and enclose the PTC element between them. Each of the conductor elements is surrounded by a frame segment. The frame segments are welded together to enclose the PTC element in the accommodation space. In the method according to the invention, injection molded plastic frame segments having interacting connection segments are connected to conductor elements. At least one PTC element is then introduced between the frame segments. The frame segments are approached to each other until the connection segments abut against each other. The connection segments are then melted. As a result of this melting, the frame segments are approached further to each other until the conductor elements abut against the PTC element.
