摘要： Apparatus for drawing, or blanking and drawing, a flat metallic piece into a cup shape. A blanking punch, blanking die, draw die, movable stripper and a spacer are mounted on the stationary bed of a press. A pressure pad and draw punch are carried by the ram of a press. The pressure pad is positioned to contact first the blanking punch, then to contact the movable stripper and push it solidly against the spacer. As the ram continues its downward movement, the pressure pad collapses with respect to the ram by virtue of its connection to a piston operating in a cylinder in the ram containing controllable air pressure. The maintenance of a predetermined pressure pad-draw die gap during the draw prevents wrinkling, and the maintenance of the controlled pressure on the pressure pad prevents thinning and subsequent clipping of ears. The edge of the blank which is captured between the pressure pad and draw die is gradually pulled radially inward as the die approaches the bottom of its stroke and the wrinkling and thinning and clipping of ears of the blank which would take place during this pulling is prevented. On the upstroke of the ram air is injected into the draw punch to assist in stripping the finished cup from the punch, and the blanking punch and mounting plate are raised by springs, and the movable stripper raises the scrap upward for removal.

The method comprises heating the brake disk material, and maintaining the material heated while it is inserted between upper and lower dies of the apparatus. The central and outer peripheral portions of the material are pressed and held. The material is continuously quenched while it is maintained pressed and held.

摘要： The combination is used in the mechanism for forming and stripping a container having a mouth wherein the container is formed on a punch during the inserting portion of a deformation stroke through a deforming die and stripped from the punch during the withdrawing portion of the deformation stroke. An annular stripper member is located ahead of the deforming die and is disposed around and in a zone of movement during the deformation stroke. The stripper member is effective to strip the container from the punch during the withdrawing portion of the deformation stroke. Beveled means is adapted to act upon the peripheral edge of the mouth of the container against a peripheral edge section of the deforming die. Consequently, a conically-shaped widened portion is formed along the peripheral edge of the container mouth. The beveled means is effective to form the conically shaped widened portion toward the end of the inserting portion of the deformation stroke. The stripper member includes a stripper surface disposed obliquely with respect to the axis of the punch and is effective to abut the widened mouth portion on the withdrawing portion of the stroke thereby causing the container to be removed from the punch.

The blanks are drawn over a support surface upstream of the die with respect to the direction of travel of the particles which form the blank before they reach the die cavity and this surface is vibrated so that each point on it vibrates in a direction that passes through the drawing axis. The blank may be held against this surface by being sandwiched between it and a blank holder, the surface of which may vibrate in a similar direction. The invention includes special means of supporting the die unit in position during operation in such a way that the dissipation of vibrational energy is minimised.

摘要： The ram of a can body former has a bearing oil flowing thereon at one side of a wiper seal and metal forming liquid at the opposite side thereof. The wiper seal includes an outer housing portion mounting an inner housing ring axially slideably removable therefrom with sealing means therebetween. The inner housing ring, in turn, mounts a manifold ring forming a manifold chamber surrounding the ram with single or multiple sealing rings at opposite sides of the manifold ring slideably engaging the ram. A pressure fluid inlet into the manifold chamber maintains a fluid pressure therein and a fluid bleed-off from the manifold chamber constantly bleeds off a portion of the pressure fluid having mixed therein quantities of the bearing oil and forming liquid bypassing the seals during ram reciprocal movement. The mounting of the manifold ring and sealing rings within the inner housing ring permits the entire assembly to be axially slideably removed as a unit from the outer housing portion.
