摘要: An intended object of the present invention is to realize a high-precision torque limiting mechanism capable of limiting an output torque to a magnitude of not more than a prescribed value, as well as to reduce a frictional torque produced upon occurrence of a slip. To accomplish this object, a ball ramp section 13 is attached to a slip clutch section 3 for reducing friction between friction plates 31 and 32 forming the slip clutch section 3 and limiting a torque to be transmitted by utilizing an axial thrust produced at the ball ramp section 13 in accordance with the magnitude of an input torque. The precision with which the torque to be transmitted is limited is enhanced by making improvements to the shape of an internal side surface of a recess G formed in each of cam elements 131 and 132 of the ball ramp section 13.

摘要: A clutch having an outer ring, an inner shaft mounted in the outer member, a cage interposed between the outer ring and the inner shaft and cam members movably mounted in pockets formed in the cage. A torque-setting elastic member is provided between the cage and one of the outer ring and the inner shaft so that while the torque on the elastic member is smaller than a preset value, they will rotate in unison with some clearance left therebetween in the direction of rotation. When the torque on the elastic member gets larger than the preset value, the elastic member deforms to allow the cage to turn relative to the member engaged therewith. Now, the cam elements are pushed by the cage into engagement with both cam surfaces formed on the inner periphery of the outer member and the other periphery of the inner member, thus bringing the two members into engagement. This input shaft is rotatably mounted in the outer ring by means of two bearings so as to extend through the outer ring.

摘要: A torque limiting clutch comprises a driving part and a driven part disengagably interconnected in torque transmitting relationship by a torque transmitting element guided by a cage, a spacer movable by the cage into spacing relationship with both the driving and driven parts on disengagement of the clutch by relative movement between the parts in either direction, to maintain the torque transmitting element out of torque transmitting relationship with the parts. The clutch is re-engagable by relative rotation between the driving and driven parts in the opposite direction. The clutch includes two sets of inter-engagable abutments, the abutments of the first set being provided on the cage and the abutments of the second set being provided on one of the parts and being operable to cause abutments of the first and second to inter-engage to cause the cage and one of the parts to rotate together. The clutch further includes a first plurality of abutments of each set operable on relative rotation between the clutch parts in the opposite direction to that in which a second plurality of abutments of each set is operable. The abutments are biased in a direction towards inter-engagement, and inter-engagement of the abutments is controlled to permit disengagement of the clutch and re-engagement on relative rotation between the parts in the reverse direction to the direction of disengagement.

摘要: A torque limiting overload coupling for preventing an excessive load given to an output element from being reversely transferred to an input element which includes a plurality of paired balls, used as a rotation-transmitting connection between the input and output elements and which are held by the same number of holes extending through a ring plate fastened to the input element, held between a flange on the input element and a slider movable in the axial direction and slidably held on the input element. Each pair of balls has one ball engaged in a hole of the flange and the other ball engaged in a hole of the slider which is biased towards the flange by a compressive force of a spring attached to the rear side of the slider. In a space between the slider and the input element are a pair of parallel, trapezoidal cross-sectioned bars which form a tapered groove therebetween in which an intervener is received, the intervener formed from many sections of a ring having a wedge shaped cross-section. The intervener is pressed against the slider which in turn is pressed against the balls to hold the balls in the holes of the flange to effect transmission of rotation from the input element to the output element. When an excessive load is applied to the output element the balls force the slider away from the flange and thus the intervener between the paired bars and the torque limiter is left in a released condition.

摘要: An overload clutch which is prevented from unintentionally switching into the freewheeling position when rotational vibrations occur includes torque-transmitting members held in apertures of a first clutch member and adapted to be engaged in first recesses of a second clutch member for bringing the clutch into torque-transmitting engagement. A switching ring includes second recesses adapted to align with the apertures in the first clutch member when an overload condition occurs. A circumferentially acting spring tends to hold the switching ring in the torque-transmitting position and a securing pin is mounted in the first clutch member for engagement in a detent in the switching ring to hold the switching ring in torque-transmitting position. The securing pin is held in engagement with the detent by a spring but is arranged so as to extend into the detent a distance which will permit disengagement of the securing pin when a predetermined nominal torque of the clutch is exceeded.

摘要: An overload clutch assembly including a driving member and a driven member having torque transmitting balls operatively disposed therebetween in apertures in the driving member and engageable in recesses in the driven member with a control member axially spring biased to hold the balls in the recesses in the driven member to effect the engaged condition of the clutch. The control member is circumferentially movable relative to the driving member against the action of biasing springs to bring recesses in the control member into alignment with the torque transmitting members so that the clutch assembly can be moved to the disengaged condition. The control member includes a first radially outwardly extending cam which is engageable by a radially movable external control tappet to cause circumferential movement of the control member for bringing the clutch into the disengaged condition when required other than in response to torque overload. The driving member includes a second cam operative to move the control tappet radially out of the path of the first cam whereby the clutch assembly is in condition to effect re-engagement.

摘要: The invention concerns a torque limiting coupling wherein a driven clutch member is normally constrained to rotate with a driving clutch member by balls confined in ball pockets in those two members, opening to their opposing flat faces. The clutch members are biased relatively towards one another so that the balls can roll out of the pockets when the driven member is excessively loaded. Coaxially between those members and rotatable relative to them are a disc-like synchronizing cage and a disc-like transfer cage. The synchronizing cage has a radial slot for each ball that maintains the ball in predetermined circumferentially spaced relation to the other balls. The transfer cage has a first hole for each ball that registers with ball pockets and through which the ball extends during normal drive. It also has a groove extending from each first hole in a fractional-turn spiral and terminating at a second hole. Upon overload, each ball is guided along its groove and into the second hole. While rolling along the groove the ball forces the transfer cage flatwise against the adjacent clutch member to frictionally confine the transfer cage against rotation relative to that member. When in the second hole each ball rolls on the flat clutch member faces, propelling the cages for rotation with one another but relative to both clutch members. Resetting is accomplished without tools by reverse rotation of one clutch member.

摘要: A rotary drive device for transmitting power and which includes two parts that rotate together. When a predetermined torque is encountered, two parts move slightly relative to one another and immediately cause actuation of switch means which in turn actuates a light, an alarm, or other means to cut off power or otherwise stop the device, until overload conditions are overcome. The relative rotation between the two parts of the device occurs quickly and with a snap action so that upon reaching an overload torque condition, a signal is immediately given without delay and without "hunting" of the device or other hesitation. The device furthermore has spring means for loading an axially shiftable switching plate and which springs and plate are also used to transmit axial force on a ball and detent means between the two parts. The device utilizes the same spring means for resiliently loading the switch plate and for setting the maximum driving torque. The resulting device is instantaneous in action when overload torque conditions are encountered, has a minimum number of parts for the functions performed, is economical to manufacture and simple and foolproof in operation.
