摘要: The invention comprises a process for stripping disks coated by the process disclosed in the parent application described above. According to that process, the disks are rotated at high speed during a media application step, then immersed in an orienting magnetic field, and finally dried at low speed. If a flaw is detected after drying, according to the stripping and recoating process of the present invention, the disk is simply stripped and recoated by merely repeating the high speed coating step. During stripping and recoating, the nozzle starts at the outside diameter and moves toward the inside diameter. As the nozzle moves from outside diameter to inside diameter, the new media which is discharged from the nozzle onto the disk strips away the old media layer. Once the nozzle reaches the inside diameter, it moves back toward the outside diameter and applies a new layer of media to the disk.

摘要: An elongated carriage has a first capacitive probe disposed from its top surface opposite to an object surface, and a second capacitive probe disposed from its bottom surface opposite to a level reference surface. An arm is orthogonally disposed from the elongated carriage member to provide lateral support. The carriage is moveably supported at opposite ends of the elongated member and at the distal end of the arm by three rolling members which roll in corresponding grooves of supporting members as the carriage is moved in lateral increments with respect to the stationary object and reference surfaces. The first capacitive probe and the object surface comprise a first capacitor, and the second capacitive probe and the reference surface comprise a second capacitor. As the carriage moves laterally, the first probe is moved across the object surface while the second probe is moved across the reference surface. The capacitance of each probe is translated into a distance measurement. The distance values derived from the first capacitor are utilized with the distance values derived from the second capacitor to generate numerical information describing the flatness of the object surface. The apparatus self-corrects for any translational deviations of the carriage.

摘要: A method of calibrating an analog machining sensor of the varying resistance type which has been deposited on a surface involves depositing adjacent it with great positional accuracy relative to a feature on the surface, discrete machining sensors. As machining takes place, the discrete sensor's continuities are successively broken as the analog sensor's height is reduced and its resistance increased. Measuring the resistance of the analog sensor at the time each discrete sensor breaks yields values from which the position of the analog sensor's machined edge can be very accurately related to the position of the feature on the surface.

摘要: A method is disclosed for verifying the integrity of servo data stored as a series of parallel servo tracks on a disk. Each track includes automatic gain control data and servo positioning data. The peak amplitudes of the automatic gain control pulses on a first track determine a first effective threshold or AGC gain level. The first threshold level is then shifted to a higher, enhanced threshold level. Servo data pulses from a second track are then detected, based on the enhanced threshold level and the AGC gain level of the first track. Should these servo data pulses not be fully detected, an error is recorded for the second servo track.

摘要: A system and method of accurately locating the center of a previously recorded magnetic track on a rotating magnetic storage disk and moving a transducer to the center of the track. The system measures in increments the amplitude of the feedback signal as the transducer is moved to each side of the recorded track and compares the signal amplitude measured with a predetermined reference level. Through the use of an offset measuring system connected to a computer processor the number of increments moved in each direction is recorded and a simple calculation is made to determine the center of the magnetic track. The transducer for recording and replaying information on the disk is then moved to the center of the track.

摘要: A workpiece carrier has a support bar centrally supported at one end of a stem portion. The stem is carried at its opposite end on a base. Columns are interposed between the ends of the support bar and the base. Heat is applied to the columns, preferably by resistive heating elements, to heat them and cause their thermal expansion, causing the support bar ends to be bent away from the base. A relatively flexible workpiece which has been bonded to the support arms on a surface facing away from the base will undergo the same bend.

摘要: A focus initialization system is provided for optical data recording of the type in which an objective lens relatively near to the optical recording media is moved back and forth in comparatively small excursions to maintain focus for the read beam and write beam on the media. This system initializes or loads a conventional focusing system by starting the objective lens at a position at the far end of its travel limit, preferably, with the objective lens furthest from the optical media. The objective lens moves slowly towards the optical media while the system operates to detect when a near focus condition exists. Known focusing detection systems produce a bipolar output voltage having a peak on either side of the exact focus point when a near to focus condition is achieved. The present system detects when the objective lens is at a near to focus condition in the range between bipolar voltage peaks on either side of the focused point. When the objective lens is near to focus where the known focusing system can maintain focus, the present system switches on the known focusing system. The present system monitors the focus condition and if a far out of focus condition occurs, waits a short time interval before activating a warning indication. Also, the present system waits a short time interval when a near to focus condition exists before activating the known focusing system in order to make sure that the near to focus condition is stable.

摘要: A track centering servo pulse noise filter is provided. Prerecorded pulses on a disk track's even and odd half tracks are sensed by the disk's read head, preamplified, DC biased, peak detected, and stored on a FIFO basis into a noise filter comprising two sets of N analog sample and hold cells, one set for the even pulses and one set for the odd pulses. The output of each even-pulse sample and hold cell is input to a summing junction to form an average of the last N pulses. The same is done with the outputs of the odd-pulse sample and hold cells. The two summing junctions are then input to a differential amplifier to form a position error signal to the disk head track centering servo system for keeping the head centered on the track.
