Abstract:
A light beam polarization converter for converting non-polarized light beams of an illumination source into a single polarization state, which may be utilized in various electro-optical devices, such as liquid crystal projection type televisions. A polarization splitter film and a phase retardation film are utilized to make the incident light beams of a light source focused and refracted with an under plate. The light beam, upon passing through the under plate, goes through a series of optical processes of polarization splitting, reflection, total reflection and phase retardation, and subsequently becomes a light beam of a single polarization state output.
Abstract:
A method for forming a pattern on a surface of a steel substrate includes the formation of a patterned mask on the surface of the steel substrate. The entire surface having the patterned mask is etched by reactive ion etching such the a pattern is formed on the surface of the steel substrate. The reactive ion etching is brought about by a plasma which is produced in an atmosphere of a chlorine-containing compound, under pressure of 1-100 mTorr, and with a radio frequency power of 100-600 W.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for automatically adjusting the gram load, static attitude and the flying height of the slider in a head suspension assembly comprising one or more lasers, a fiber optic switch, a measurement apparatus and a computer control device. The fiber optic switch includes a plurality of fiber optic lines which direct the output of the laser to well-defined regions on the suspensions in a disk drive. Irradiation of the suspension by the laser causes a load change which alters the flying height, and/or a static attitude change in the slider. In the method of the present invention, the initial gram load, flying height or static attitude of the slider is measured by the measurement apparatus and the control means calculates how much energy is required to cause the change needed to achieve the desired condition. Other information, such as the type of laser to be used is also specified by the control device. The laser then delivers output to the suspension through the fiber optic line and the static attitude, flying height, or gram load is remeasured to determine if additional adjustment is required.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for sensing the vibrational response of a slider of predetermined dimensions during contact with one or more surface asperities on a recording surface, separating the response into its individual bending mode frequency component responses, determining one or more bending mode frequency responses which display monotonic behavior with increasing asperity interference, and designing a mode selection sensor optimized to detect the monotonic bending mode frequency identified. The mode enhanced sensor is designed by first analyzing the stress distribution of the slider corresponding to the monotonic bending mode frequency, identifying regions of the slider which experience substantially positive or substantially negative stress, and partitioning the upper conductive layer of a piezoelectric sensor to form a partitions corresponding to each of the identified regions. The sensor may be further enhanced by tailoring the partitions to exclude undesirable stress contributions.
Abstract:
An optical measurement system for use in a data recording disk drive includes wavefront reconstruction optics which correct and compensate for aberrations in laser beams reflected from radial and linear diffraction gratings. The reconstruction optics include two spherical lenses and two reflectors, one of each positioned on each side of a diffraction grating. Light directed from a laser beam toward the grating diffracts into a +1 order component directed at the first set of reconstruction optics and into a -1 order component directed at the second set of reconstruction optics. The reconstruction optics compensate for the variable yaw angle caused by a linear grating and for the optical wavefront aberrations caused by a radial grating. Use of the reconstruction optics permits an optical measurement system in a data recording disk drive to accurately measure the position of either a linear or rotary actuator and to generate a precise reference clock for use in timing the recording of servo information to the data recording disk.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a linker for joining an electrode and a capture probe on a biochip, and a biochip comprising the linker. The impedance baseline of the linker of the present invention is three orders lower than the conventional long chain thiol linker when adopting in a fadaraic impedance biochip construction. With lower impedance baseline, the device designed to measure the signal of the biochip of the present invention could be further simplied on the electrical circuit design and be made in lower cost, compacter size and get the potential to be used in point-of-care applications. The present invention also provides a method of quantitatively detecting a concentration of a target analyte in a fluid sample by adopting the biochip and the linker of present invention.
