Abstract:
A coating composition comprising a blend of at least two dye fixatives, at least one of which is a cationic polymer, and at least one of the other dye fixatives is a polyvalent metal salt, to form a water-insoluble complex. The ink recording sheets comprise a composition that is absorbed into the surface of the substrate as a sizing material, or alternatively, forms a continuous layer on the substrate. The present invention also encompasses methods for making the ink jet recording sheets.
Abstract:
A box has an opening in at least one wall, behind which a lens insert is affixed, with graphics on the lens insert viewable through the opening. The lens produces a three-dimensional image of the graphics, and its placement behind the opening gives the impression that the contents of the box are being viewed through the opening. In a preferred embodiment, the opening and lens insert wrap around at least one corner of the box, enhancing the effect of the three-dimensional image.
Abstract:
The closure system of the present invention includes a pressure pad of conventional design which is urged against the external surfaces of a plurality of loosely associated overlying prefolded end side wall portions of the bottom end of a carton blank which is disposed on a mandrel which includes a backup pad disposed within the carton and contiguous to the internal surfaces of the prefolded end side wall portions to thereby capture the prefolded end side wall portions between the pressure pad and the backup pad. The force for urging the pressure pad initially against the loosely associated overlying: prefolded end side wall portions and thereafter providing a sealing pressure against the infolded end side wall portions and maintain this sealing pressure for a time sufficient to permit solidification of the softened heat-sealable component of the carton blank, is generated by means of a piston/cylinder operating through a pivoted arm whose distal end carries a cam follower that is moved against a linearly reciprocative cam which is operatively associated with the pressure pad. The contour of the cam is chosen to provide for maximum distance of movement of the cam, at a relatively low pressure applied by the piston/cylinder, to initially urge the loosely infolded portions of the carton bottom into their desired permanent positions relative to one another, followed by minimum distance of movement of the cam at a relatively high pressure to urge the contiguous ones of the overlying infolded end side wall portions intimately against one another, and hold the same under high pressure as the heat-sealing layer or coating thereon solidifies and bonds the overlying end side wall portions together to define a closed bottom for the carton.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for tracking and documenting environmental compliance in a pulp mill, related primarily to the bypassing of liquid hazardous pollutants from a capture and treatment system. The method and system provide continuous information regarding the input materials, the output products, and the operations of equipment in the pulping process. The continuous information is provided to a central processor for determindation of emission levels that exceed certain predetermined levels. The method and system permit personnel to verify compliance with environmental regulations, verify the reliability of pollutant collection and treatment equipment and record the actions taken to correct an inappropriate emission or equipment failure.
Abstract:
In a bulk bin having side walls joined to one another at adjacent edges along vertical scores, and bottom flaps joined to bottom edges of the side walls along a flap score, with adjacent flaps separated from one another by a flap slot, a shaped cut is made at the terminal end of the flap slot to redirect stress away from the bottom end of the vertical score and resist initiation of tearing of the vertical score at that point. In one embodiment, the shaped cut is a downwardly open hook shape which terminates in an end pointing laterally away from the vertical score and into the flap. In another embodiment, the shaped cut resembles a modified Greek letter psi (null), with the ends pointing laterally away from the vertical score, and in still another embodiment, the shaped cut is nullTnull shaped, with the ends of the nullTnull pointing laterally away from the vertical score.
Abstract:
A bulk container for storing and shipping flowable material in bulk. The container is constructed of inner and outer cartons laminated together and made of corrugated paperboard. The container has side walls with at least one viewing opening for viewing the level of contents of the container, and a closable dispensing opening through which the flowable material may be dispensed. The closable dispensing opening is located in a lower corner of one of the side walls, adjacent to but spaced from the corner, and is closed by a first pour spout flap in the outer carton foldable in a first direction, and a second pour spout flap in the inner carton underlying the first flap and foldable in a second direction. Both flaps are formed by two spaced apart slits in the respective inner and outer cartons, extending parallel to the direction of the flutes of the corrugated paperboard, with the slits in the outer carton in substantial registry with the slits in the inner carton. The flaps, when in their open position, form an opening in the wall adjacent to but spaced from the corner and through which product is dispensed. The viewing opening preferably is formed of two parallel, laterally and vertically offset narrow slots extending parallel to the direction of the flutes of the corrugated material and located within the lower half of the side wall.
Abstract:
A container made from corrugated paperboard has a bottom wall, opposite side and end walls, and a self locking arrangement on the end walls holding the container in erected condition. The self locking arrangement includes first and second end panels on opposite ends of the side walls, and a third end panel on opposite ends of the bottom wall. The end panels form the end walls of the container. The first and second end panels have at least one notch formed in an upper edge, and a roll over flap is foldably joined by at least one web to an upper edge of each of the third end panels and is folded inwardly and downwardly over the upper edges of the first and second end panels into a locked position to hold the end panels and thus the container in erected condition. In the locked position, the web is engaged in the notch. In particular, the web has a thickness less than the thickness of an end panel, so that it fits deeply into the notch, producing a tight fit and reliable interlocking of the components of the self locking arrangement.
Abstract:
Bleached polycrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers with reduced furfurai content are disclosed. The reduced furfural content is accompanied by a strong reduction of malodor associated with crosslinked fibers. Methods of furfurai reduction include treatment with hydrogen peroxide in the absence of alkaline or other bleaching agents subsequent to curing polyacrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers. Some embodiments of treated polycrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers have a furfural content lower than 1.3 ppm. In some embodiments, the reduction of furfural content of the treated crosslinked fibers compared to untreated crosslinked fibers is at least 55%. in some embodiments, furfural content decreases with aging of the treated crosslinked fibers.

A cabinet includes a plurality of vertically spaced-apart shelves adapted to hold product for display in a retail location. The cabinet is formed from a flat blank which is folded to form the cabinet. The cabinet further includes an interior structure to provide strength and rigidity. Multiple cabinets can be coupled together in a system to create multiple configuration displays.
