Abstract: Methods for marking a seat belt webbing with an infrared compound are described herein. The methods comprise ablating a surface of the seat belt webbing by directing one or more laser pulses toward the seat belt webbing; and coating the ablated surface of the seat belt webbing with the infrared compound, wherein the infrared compound increases absorptivity or reflectivity of the seat belt webbing to infrared radiation. Methods for optically monitoring operation of the seat belt webbing in a vehicle and distinguishing between proper positioning and improper positioning of the seat belt webbing are also disclosed.

Abstract: Coatable compositions for formation of ink-receptive layers, which may be aqueous suspensions, comprise a mixture of: a) 8.0-75 wt % (based on the total weight of a), b), c), and d)) of colloidal silica particles having an average particle size of 2.0-150 nm; b) 10-75 wt % of one or more polyester polymers; c) 10-75 wt % of one or more polymers selected from the group consisting of polyurethane polymers and (meth)acrylate polymers; and d) 0-10 wt % of one or more crosslinkers. Ink-receptive layers, which may exhibit high gloss and high ink anchoring are also provided, as are constructions comprising such layers. Porous solids are also provided, comprising: a) 8.0-75 wt % of colloidal silica particles having an average particle size of 2.0-150 nm; and b) one or more water dispersible polymers.

Abstract: A pre-treatment coating composition includes evaporable liquid vehicle and a pre-treatment coating matrix, including from 30 wt % to 70 wt % multivalent organic salt, from 5 wt % to 30 wt % dispersed polyurethane binder having a weight average molecular weight from 30,000 Mw to 100,000 Mw, from 0.5 wt % to 8 wt % of a high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder, and from 10 wt % to 30 wt % of a low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder. The low molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder and the high molecular weight polyvinyl alcohol binder are present in the pre-treatment coating matrix at a 3:1 to 15:1 weight ratio, and weight percentages are based on dry weight of the pre-treatment coating matrix.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an inkjet printing process that comprises inkjet printing an inkjet ink composition onto a substrate to form a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water, wherein the amount of curable polyurethane dispersed in the inkjet ink composition is 0.1 to 30 weight %. A radiation-curable overcoat composition is inkjet printed over the printed inkjet ink layer as an overcoat layer. The overcoat composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water, wherein the amount of curable polyurethane dispersed in the overcoat composition is 0.1 to 30 weight %. The printed inkjet ink layer is cured by exposing both the printed inkjet ink layer and the overcoat layer on the substrate to radiation.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to primer coatings that enhance the adhesion of liquid digital printing inks and toners to the substrate. The coatings comprise one or more polyurethane dispersions and one or more acrylic emulsions. The coatings of the present invention improve resistance to mineral oils, such as those typically found in liquid digital printing inks and toners. The primer coatings of the invention also reduce blocking, so that a primer coated reel of substrate may be easily unrolled, even after having been stored in the rolled reel for an extended period of time.

Abstract: A printable film that contains a polymeric film substrate with a front side and a backside. The printable film contains also a light diffusion layer and an image receiving layer. The light diffusion layer is applied on the backside of the polymeric film substrate and contains inorganic particles, dispersing agents and polymeric binders. The image receiving layer is applied over the light diffusion layer on the backside of the polymeric film substrate. Also disclosed herein is the method for obtaining the printable film.
