    Abstract: A snow thrower impeller assembly (24) defines a mounting slot (84) for a wiper (70) in an embodiment. The wiper includes a wiper portion (86) that slides into the mounting slot to mount the wiper to the impeller (54). The wiper contacts an interior wall (56) of an associated impeller housing during rotational operation of the impeller in order to limit a gap (74) between an impeller blade (66) and the interior wall. The wiper can move radially inward and outward to remain in contact with the interior wall without input from the operator. Another embodiment of the impeller assembly includes impeller blades with a first portion (116) and a second portion (118). The second portion extends at a non-zero angle from the first blade portion of the impeller blade. Improving the efficiency of a snow thrower is described in one or more methods.

    Abstract: A chute rotation control system for a snow thrower is disclosed. One example embodiment is a chute rotation control system configured to rotate a chute of a snow thrower, comprising: a chute rotation motor coupled to the chute via one or more gears, wherein the chute rotation motor is configured to alternately rotate the chute clockwise and counterclockwise; a left chute control configured to receive one or more left user inputs and to generate a left output signal; a right chute control configured to receive one or more right user inputs and to generate a right output signal; and a motor controller configured to receive the left input signal and the right input signal, to cause the chute rotation motor to rotate the chute counterclockwise in response to the left input, and to cause the chute rotation motor to rotate the chute clockwise in response to the right input signal.

    Abstract: A domestic robotic system includes a moveable robot having an image obtaining device for obtaining images of the exterior environment of the robot, and a processor programmed to detect a predetermined pattern within the obtained images. The processor and image obtaining device form at least part of a first navigation system for the robot which can determine a first estimate of at least one of the position and orientation of the robot. A second navigation system for the robot determines an alternative estimate of the at least one of the position and orientation of the robot. Calibration of the second navigation system can be performed using the first navigation system.
