Abstract:
A lighting device including a plurality of electrically activated emitters having different peak wavelengths, at least one remote lumiphor arranged to receive at least some emissions from one of the emitters, and a primary electrically activated emitter spatially segregated and/or thermally insulated from a secondary electrically activated emitter. A lighting device including a plurality of electrically activated emitters spatially segregated from one another having different peak wavelengths, at least one lumiphor spatially segregated from one of the emitters, and a control device independently connected to each emitter or group of emitters. A method of producing a lighting device including a plurality of independently controllable electrically activated emitters.
Abstract:
A solid state lighting device includes a solid state light emitter combined with a lumiphor to form a solid state light emitting component, at least one lumiphor spatially segregated from the light emitting component, and another lumiphor and/or solid state light emitter. The solid state light emitting component may include a blue shifted yellow component with a higher color temperature, but in combination with the other elements the aggregated emissions from the lighting device have a lower color temperature. Multiple white or near-white components may be provided and arranged to stimulate one or more lumiphors spatially segregated therefrom.
Abstract:
A lighting device is disclosed comprising a plurality of light emitters and a heat spreader plate thermally coupled to the plurality of light emitters, wherein the plurality of solid state emitters provides a thermal load upon application of an operating current and voltage, the heat spreader plate dissipating substantially all of the thermal load to an ambient air environment.
Abstract:
A specular reflector and LED lamps using embodiments of the reflector are disclosed. Embodiments of the invention provide a reflector for solid state lamps. The reflector can be a specular reflector. The reflector includes a rigid, polymeric substrate and sputtered metal applied to the substrate. In some embodiments, the metal is silver. In some embodiments, the metal is applied without an intervening base coat. In some embodiments, the substrate is made from or includes an aromatic polyester such as polyarylate. The reflector can include a discontinuous or irregular surface yet still exhibit very high overall reflectivity and efficiency because the metal can be applied without an intervening base coat. In some embodiments, the reflector is used in lamps having a retroreflective optical design.
Abstract:
A lighting device comprising a solid state light emitter and a light mixing element, in which at least ten of light emitted by the emitter that enters the mixing element is reflected within the mixing element, and the mixing element is not larger than 16 mm. Also, a lighting device comprising an emitter and a mixing element comprising first and second regions. Also, a lighting device comprising a light emitter and a mixing element, in which a light exit region of the mixing element has a surface area between about 50% to about 300% of a surface area of a light entrance region of the mixing element. Also, a lighting device comprising a light emitter, a mixing element and a light output shaping element which defines an exit aperture having a dimension that is at least three times a largest dimension of the first light mixing element.
Abstract:
An elongated lens profile having reverse total internal reflection (TIR) features that improve light extraction when the lens is used in conjunction with a plurality of light emitters. Solid state light emitters, such as LEDs, are arranged proximate to the elongated lens along a longitudinal axis of the lens body. The emitters, which may be grouped in clusters, emit toward a receiving surface of the lens. The receiving surface includes a plurality of reverse TIR features, also disposed along the longitudinal axis. These features may be defined by a series of recessed areas spaced along the longitudinal axis to correspond with the light emitters which can protrude into the negative space created by the recessed features. The recessed features may have more than one shape. The reverse TIR features improve light output uniformity, reducing hot spots along the lens, and improve output efficiency.
Abstract:
A lighting device comprising a first group of solid state light emitters, an element containing luminescent material and a second group of solid state light emitters spaced from the element. In some embodiments, (1) at least 50% of light emitted by one of the first group does not mix with light emitted by the second group before the light emitted by the second group has entered the element, (2) at least 90% of exiting light emitted by the second group travels farther within the lighting device than 90% of exiting light emitted by the first group, (3) an average distance traveled by exiting light emitted by the second group is farther than an average distance traveled by exiting light emitted by the second group, and/or (4) light emitted by the first group directly exiting the lighting device exits the lighting device without being incident upon the element.
Abstract:
A lighting device, comprising a housing and at least one mounting clip. The housing comprises an electrical connection region engageable in an electrical receptacle. The mounting clip is pivotable from a first position, where an end region of the mounting clip does not extend beyond a periphery of the housing, to a second position, where the end region extends beyond the housing periphery. Also, a lighting device, comprising a housing, a trim element and at least one mounting clip. The mounting clip is pivotable, such that if the mounting clip is in a second position and then the trim element is rotated, the mounting clip will pivot to a third position, where the mounting clip engages the housing such that the trim element is biased toward a ceiling or other structure in which the lighting device is mounted. Also, methods of installing housings and/or trim elements.
