Abstract: The present invention describes a method and system for governing a physical device or application service in a real world through a virtual device in a virtual world. The physical device or application service registers at least one virtual adaptor of the physical device or application service to a virtual device broker. A user creates or composes the virtual device with the at least one virtual adaptor in the virtual device broker. The user commands to the virtual device through a user interface of the virtual device. The at least one virtual adaptor in the virtual device translates the command to a controlling signal to the physical device or application service. The controlling signal operates the physical device or application service according to the command to the virtual device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method determines a plurality of categories for requests for a shared resource being shared by a plurality of entities. A request for the resource is received from an entity in the plurality of entities. The method determines a category in the plurality of categories for the received request. If the received request is determined to be in a first category, the method dispatches the received request to a first arbitration scheme configured to determine an arbitration decision in a first time cycle. If the received request is determined to be in a second category, the method dispatches the received request to a second arbitration scheme configured to determine an arbitration decision in a second time cycle of a different length from the first time cycle.

Abstract: An illuminating device for a walking stick includes a main body having a through hole defined in a top thereof for adapting to receive a bottom of a walking stick, such that the main body adapts to position on the walking stick. A plurality of light source is mounted on the main body for emitting light. A light shade sleeves on the main body and encloses the light sources. The light shade allows light to pass through. A power supply is mounted in the main body and is electrically connected with the light sources. When the light sources are supplied with electricity provided by the power supply to emit light, light emitted by the light sources is transmitted through the light shade for providing an illuminating effect.

Abstract: A video stream encoding apparatus and method therefore is herein described. The video stream encoding apparatus includes a divider for dividing a frame in a video stream into a plurality of processing units, each processing unit including a plurality of macro-blocks; and an encoder for encoding the plurality of macro-blocks in each processing unit in parallel. The same quantization parameters are used for respective macro-blocks in the same processing unit in the quantization of the encoder. By the apparatus and the method of the invention, dependencies between macro-blocks are broken, and the precision of high rate controlling is kept while encoding the respective macro-blocks in parallel.

Abstract: In computer multimedia technology, a system, method and computer program product for optimizing images and transmission of images of a web-page transmitted over the Internet and furthermore, optimizing images of a web page on a network server. The method includes detecting the images in the web page to determine the relationship among the images; in response to the determination of the relationship among the images, combining two or more related images into a combinational image; and updating the web page to replace references to the related images with a reference to the combinational image. By optimizing web page images, the server's work required for handling heavy amount of HTTP requests in transmitting the web page images is decreased and the bandwidth requirement for transmitting the web page images is reduced. The quality of the original image is not lowered. And there is no need to make any change to the operation at the client side.

Abstract: In a method and module for controlling rotation of a motorized spindle driven by a driving unit, a sensing unit senses vibration of the spindle and generates a voltage signal corresponding to the vibration of the spindle. A processing unit receives the voltage signal from the sensing unit, generates an adjusting ratio equal to a reference voltage corresponding to a predetermined vibration level of the spindle by the voltage signal upon detecting that the voltage signal is greater than the reference voltage and is less than a predetermined threshold voltage that is greater than the reference voltage, and outputs a control signal corresponding to the adjusting ratio to the driving unit such that the driving unit reduces a rotation speed of the spindle by the adjusting ratio in response to the control signal from the processing unit.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a trend in vertical track modulus are disclosed in accordance with embodiments of the present invention. Vertical deflection data is collected along a particular section of railroad track. A first set of vertical track modulus is determined, based in part, on the collected vertical deflection data. At a second time, vertical deflection data is again collected along the particular section of railroad track to be used in determining a second set of vertical track modulus. At least the first and second sets of vertical track modulus are analyzed to determine a mathematical algorithm that facilitates developing a trend in the vertical track modulus of the railroad track.
