In an apparatus for adjusting a phase position of a camshaft in relation to a crankshaft which drives the camshaft, including an electric actuator for operating an adjustment mechanism, which can move the camshaft to a basic or emergency-operating position in the event of a shut-down as a result of an operational fault, the emergency-operating position can be reliably reached with the aid of the electric actuator which is supplied with energy by an energy supply that is separate from an operational energy supply and which is capable of moving the adjustment mechanism to the emergency-operating position. Also, a method for operating an apparatus for adjusting a phase position of a camshaft is provided.

In a balance shaft for a multi-cylinder in-line engine with at least two imbalance weight sections and at least one bearing structure wherein the balance shaft has imbalance weight sections being arranged symmetrically relative to the bearing position and at least one of the imbalance weight sections is connected to a further shaft section at an end facing away from the bearing position, a flexible coupling element that enables a deflection of the end of the connected imbalance weight section in the direction of the resulting centrifugal forces when the balance shaft rotates is provided between the end of the at least one imbalance weight section facing away from the bearing position and the further shaft section.

In an adjustment device for a camshaft of an internal combustion engine for varying the phase relationship of a camshaft with respect to a crankshaft as a function of the operating point of the internal combustion engine, the adjustment device comprises an epicyclic gear structure with a drive-side and an output side ring wheel, which are in meshing engagement with planet wheels, and the output-side ring wheel has a number of teeth different from that of the drive-side ring wheel so that the position of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft can be adjusted via an electric servomotor which drives a central sun wheel.

In order to form contact between a control unit and current loads of an internal combustion engine by electrical components through a cylinder head cover which is seated on a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine, a method includes a pre-fixing step for the electrical components, from which step the electrical components are moved into a fixed position directly or indirectly in the cylinder head cover, after the cylinder head cover has been fitted onto the cylinder head, in order to subsequently connect the electrical components to the control unit.
