摘要： The present invention generally relates to an apparatus and method for operating a tool in a wellbore. In one aspect, the apparatus includes a hydraulically operated tool and a wellbore tubular both in communication with a pressure sensing line. The hydraulically operated tool is responsive to a combination of a fluid pressure in the pressure sensing line and a manipulation of the wellbore tubular, such response causing the tool to operate within the wellbore. In another aspect, the invention provides a method for anchoring a well tool in a wellbore. The method includes the steps of lowering the well tool into the wellbore on a tubular string, flowing fluid through the tubular string to begin anchoring the well tool, and manipulating the tubular string to complete the anchoring of the well tool.

摘要： A mechanical set anchor wherein a plunger extending from a base end of an anchor body activates a pin type trigger which releases a spring utilized to set multiple slips extending from the body of the anchor. Continued downward compressive forces fully sets the slips into the borehole pipe casing. The slips are maintained in their fully set position by a locking nut. The anchor is mechanically released by an upward pull under tension of sufficient strength to shear release pins that release the compressed spring fully retracting the slips within the anchor body so that the anchor may be tripped from the borehole without interference from the previously engaged slips.

摘要： A retrievable whipstock which can be hydraulically set within a wellbore and following the drilling procedure mechanically released and retrieved for future use. The whipstock includes a whip which directs a milling tool from the main well and a hydraulically actuated packer or anchor for setting the whipstock in the wellbore. The retrieval tool includes a nose piece to ensure proper orientation relative to the whipstock and a die collar to threadably engage the whip. An adapter on the retrieval tool wedges the whip away from the casing wall to ensure mating engagement between the retrieval tool and the whip. The whipstock is released through the application of tension through the retrieval tool allowing removal from the wellbore.

摘要： A drilling head for the controlled operation of the drill string while diverting well fluids from the well. The drilling head incorporates a kelly drive and at least one stripper rubber which rotate with the drill string extending through the drilling head. Rotation of the drive bushing and stripper rubber are controlled by bearings disposed in a bearing chamber of the drilling head through which lubricant is circulated to reduce friction and cool the bearings. A turbine ring attached to the lock nut ring of the kelly drive circulates lubricant through the bearing chamber as it rotates in association with the drive assembly of the drilling head. The turbine pump ring forces circulation of lubricant as the drive assembly rotates in addition to the circulation by the remove lubricant pump or in the event the remote pump fails to operate. The turbine ring includes a plurality of angular slots to force circulation of the lubricant as the drive assembly rotates.

摘要： A one-trip whipstock assembly incorporating a hydraulically set anchor which includes an interlock for maintaining the anchor in its set position upon interruption of hydraulic pressure. The anchor is connected to the lower end of the assembly which also includes a whipstock for diverting cutting tools and a locator sub for positioning the assembly in the cased well bore. The whipstock assembly is designed to be run into the well using a running string or a mill attached to the upper end of the whipstock in order to locate and set the whipstock and mill the casing in only one trip.

摘要： A valve body for use in cementing, fracturing or acidizing operations in well drilling with improved wear resistance to extend the operating life of the valve. The valve includes a hardened metal valve head having urethane legs replaceably attached to the valve head. A urethane valve insert may also be provided to facilitate sealing engagement with the valve seat. The urethane legs reduce the overall weight of the valve to reduce the mass of the pumping valve against the valve seat thereby extending the life of the valve. The valve legs are attached to the valve head through fitting engagement and can be replaced and/or repaired.

摘要： A whipstock mill for milling through the casing wall which incorporates a pressure drop tattletale to signal the operator that the milling operation should be halted. The milling tool includes a longitudinal fluid passageway which communicates with a lateral port formed below the mill blades. A replaceable plug is utilized to initially close the port thereby restricting fluid flow into the well hole. The starter mill is preferably run into the hole with a whipstock which can be set in the hole using an integral packer. As the mill travels down the set whipstock, a shear block mounted to the whipstock will shear the plug at a predetermined depth of the mill opening the lateral port. The resulting pressure drop within the milling tool signifies that the mill has reached the desired depth. Accordingly, the milling operation can be halted and the mill retrieved to permit further operations through the casing wall.

摘要： A mud saver valve for insertion within the drill string to retain mud in the drill pipe preventing the mud column from flowing past the valve when pumping is interrupted. The mud saver valve includes an internal check valve which permits increased flow of mud upward through the valve when a predetermined downhole pressure is reached. The increased flow of the check valve prevents a blow-out of the plug spear in the event sudden upward pressure is encountered. The check valve forms a part of the plug spear which is removable from the mud saver valve to facilitate the running of wireline tools.

摘要： A packing assembly for a whipstock in which the whipstock can be run into a well casing to a level above the bottom and milling through the casing wall without having to make a round trip with the well string. The packing assembly includes slip-type anchors which initially set the assembly and packing elements which sealingly engage the well casing to seal off the casing while anchoring the device. Disposed between the packing elements is a spacer ring which is axially movable in response to the fluid pressure within the well casing to enhance the sealing engagement of the packing elements. The spacer ring includes an O-ring seal which provides improved sealing between the spacer ring and the inner mandrel to which it is mounted. In order to compress the packing elements while preventing extrusion thereof, an overleaf ring and retainer arrangement is provided thereby enhancing sealing engagement of the packing assembly.
