Those usable as the pH-adjusting agent include, for example, monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, ammonium hydrogencarbonate, and sodium carbonate. An image, which is excellent in chromaticness and color feature, can be formed. Further, metal portions, especially an ink tank, a head, and ink flow passages thereof are prevented from corrosion which would be otherwise caused by the ink.

An ink cartridge for ink-jet recording apparatus includes an ink tank usable in an ink-jet recording apparatus and a water base ink filled in the ink tank. In the ink cartridge, the ink tank is formed of polyolefin containing a sorbitol derivative as a crystal-nucleating agent, and the pH of the water base ink filled in the tank has been adjusted to be not less than 4.0 to less than 8.0. This makes it is possible to prevent the sorbitol derivative, contained in the polyolefin as the crystal-nucleating agent, from depositing in the water base ink filled in the ink tank.

The total content of an organic acid having a number of carbon or carbons of 1 to 6 and a salt of the organic acid is not more than 400 ppm. The organic acid having a number of carbon or carbons of 1 to 6 includes monocarboxylic acid, dicarboxylic acid and oxy acid, and the salt of the organic acid includes salts of these acids. When the water base ink is used in an ink-jet recording apparatus, the discharge stability of the ink is improved.

The second fluorescent dye absorbs light in an absorption wavelength region in the ultraviolet region, which is different from the first absorption wavelength region of the first fluorescent dye, to emit fluorescence. A wavelength region of the fluorescence of the second fluorescent dye is not overlapped with the first absorption wavelength region of the first fluorescent dye, but at least a part of the wavelength region of the fluorescence of the second fluorescent dye is overlapped with the second absorption wavelength region. The fluorescence intensity of the ink is increased.

An ink for ink-jet recording is provided, in which an amount of water X (% by weight) in the ink and a saturation viscosity Y satisfy Y≦4.5e0.09X. The saturation viscosity Y is a viscosity (mPa·s) obtained when an ink residual liquid, which is obtained by evaporating volatile components of the ink until a change in weight of the ink is less than 0.05 g/day per 50 g of ink under a condition of a temperature of 60° C. and a humidity of 40%, is cooled to a temperature of 25° C. in an environment of a humidity of 40%. X satisfies 50≦X≦75. The ink exhibits satisfactory jetting stability when the ink is normally used. Further, the ink is easily restored to give a normal jetting state even after undergoing an abnormal condition, for example, when the ink is left to stand without any nozzle cap.
