    Abstract: An image decoding method according to the present document may comprise: a step for deriving an inter prediction mode from encoded information; a step for constructing reference pictures lists; a step for deriving motion information including reference picture indices for symmetric motion vector differences (SMVD) on the basis of reference pictures included in the reference picture lists; and a step for generating prediction samples on the basis of the motion information. The reference picture indices for SMVD may be derived on the basis of short-term reference pictures included in the reference picture lists.

    Abstract: A video decoding method comprises: deriving L0 and L1 motion vectors of a current block; deriving decoder-side motion vector refinement (DMVR) flag information indicating whether to apply a DMVR to the current block; when the DMVR flag information indicates that the DMVR is to be applied to the current block, deriving refined L0 and L1 motion vectors based on the L0 and L1 motion vectors by applying the DMVR to the current block; deriving prediction samples of the current block based on the refined L0 and L1 motion vectors; and generating reconstructed samples of the current block based on the predicted samples, wherein deriving DMVR flag information comprises deriving the DMVR flag information by applying the DMVR to the current block when the height of the current block is 8 or more, and when the values of L0 and L1 luma weighted prediction flag information are both 0.

Specifically, a method for decoding an image based on an inter prediction mode may include: if a merge mode is applied to a current block, generating a merge candidate list by using a spatial neighboring block and a temporal neighboring block of the current block; obtaining a merge index indicating a candidate to be used for an inter prediction of the current block in the merge candidate list; deriving a motion vector of each of subblocks included in the current block based on a motion vector of the candidate used for the inter prediction of the current block; and generating a prediction sample of the current block by using the motion vector of each of subblocks.

    Abstract: An image decoding method includes: acquiring, from a bitstream, luma weight L0 flag information indicating whether there is an L0 prediction-related weight factor and luma weight L1 flag information indicating whether there is an L1 prediction-related weight factor; determining to apply decoder-side motion vector refinement (DMVR) to an L0 motion vector and L1 motion vector for a current block, when the luma weight L0 flag information and the luma weight L1 flag information are both zero; when it has been determined to apply DMVR, deriving a refined L0 motion vector and a refined L1 motion vector by applying the DMVR to the current block; deriving prediction samples for the current block on the basis of L0 prediction using the refined L0 motion vector and L1 prediction using the refined L1 motion vector; and generating reconstruction samples for the current block on the basis of the prediction samples.
