摘要: Techniques for performing ciphering and re-ordering using a single full sequence number are described. A transmitter ciphers input packets to obtain ciphered packets, with each input packet being ciphered with a full sequence number. The transmitter generates output packets for the ciphered packets, with each output packet including a partial sequence number used for re-ordering and derived from the full sequence number. The full sequence number may be incremented for each input packet or each byte of each packet. The partial sequence number may be used as a sequence number for RLC and may be used for re-ordering, duplicate detection, error correction, and/or other functions. A receiver performs the complementary processing, re-orders received packets based on the partial sequence number included in each packet, and deciphers the received packets using the partial sequence number included in each received packet.

摘要: A scheme is provided for indexing and storing radio bearer configurations for a UMTS wireless communication network, such as a UTRAN. A radio network controller maintains a list of radio bearer configurations and an identifier for each configuration. One or more of these configurations and their identifiers are sent to a mobile terminal in the network. The mobile terminal stores these configurations and identifiers for future reference. This enables an on-the-fly configuration scheme in which the network controller can reference a particular stored configuration by its identifier to cause the mobile terminal to use that configuration to setup wireless transmitter and/or receiver. The identifiers may have contiguous values so that the network controller can transmit a range (e.g., starting identifier and ending identifier) to the mobile terminal rather than each identifier. When a configuration is modified or removed, the network controller may reassign identifiers to maintain contiguous values.

摘要: A base station in a wireless communications network counts mobile stations receiving broadcast content via multi-user channel. The base station broadcasts a repeating message identifying at least one broadcast content stream and, for each stream, a REGISTER (R) or DO NOT REGISTER (DNR) indicator. Mobile stations periodically re-examine contents of this message. When the indicator is R for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations whose users have elected to receive it send the base station a registration message for that stream. When the number of registered mobile stations reaches a prescribed number, the base station changes the indicator to DNR. When the indicator is DNR for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations refrain from sending any registration message for that broadcast content stream. The base station may institute a recount by resetting the indicator to R.

摘要: A base station (110) in a wireless communications network (100) counts mobile stations (114) receiving broadcast content via multi-user channel. The base station broadcasts (608) a repeating message identifying at least one broadcast content stream and, for each stream, a REGISTER (R) or DO NOT REGISTER (DNR) indicator. Mobile stations periodically re-examine (722) contents of this message. When the indicator is R for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations whose users have elected to receive it send (714) the base station a registration message for that stream. When the number of registered mobile stations reaches (612) a prescribed number, the base station changes (614) the indicator to DNR. When the indicator is DNR for a broadcast content stream, mobile stations refrain (712/716) from sending any registration message for that broadcast content stream. The base station may institute a recount (618) by resetting the indicator to R.

摘要: An outer decoder and an inner decoder encode a block of information to be transmitted, to improve protection by adding redundancy. The redundancy permits decoding of the information from less than a complete encoded block of information. Time re-alignment of two transmissions of the same content from two base stations can mitigate the problem of duplicated frames. The user of the subscriber station can experience seamless service without repetition of content, even when handing over to a new cell while receiving a buffer of broadcast content.

摘要: A method and system that enables multiplexing a plurality of data streams onto one data stream based on data stream priorities and available transport frame combinations (TFCs) is disclosed. A mobile station has applications that produce separate data streams. Example applications include voice, signaling, E-mail and web applications. The data streams are combined by a multiplexer module into one data stream called the transport stream. The transport stream is sent over the reverse link to base station transceivers (BTS). The multiplexer module multiplexes the data streams onto the transport stream according to their priorities and the available TFCs.

摘要: Techniques to more accurately measure the arrival times of transmissions received at a remote terminal from a number of base stations. In one aspect, unassigned finger processors are used to process and measure the arrival times of transmissions from base stations not in the active set. In another aspect, if no finger processors are available for assignment, the arrival times can be measured in the time period between updates of a reference oscillator used for the measurements. In accordance with a method for determining a position of a remote terminal, a first set of one or more base stations in active communication with the remote terminal is identified and each base station in the first set is assigned at least one finger processor. A second set of one or more base stations not in active communication with the remote terminal is also identified and an available finger processor is assigned to each of at least one base station in the second set. A (signal arrival) time measurement is then performed for each base station, and outputs indicative of the measurements are provided for further processing. To improve accuracy, the measurements can be performed within a narrow time window.
