摘要: A printer 100 sends status information, ID information and the like to a network device 200 before entering an energy conservation mode in which it is unable to communicate with external devices, so that the network device 200 will respond to a status information request on its behalf. Where a PC 300 requests status information from the printer 100, the network device 200 in which substitute response setting was put in effect responds with the printer 100 status information on behalf of the printer 100. By receiving the status response from the network device 200, the PC 300 can verify that the printer is connected to the network 400. The PC 300 can also send a release order that releases the printer 100 from the energy conservation state so that it can initiate printing.

摘要: An improved structure of a gas sensor is provided which includes a hollow housing and a sensing element. The sensing element has a flange and is disposed within the housing in engagement of the flange with an inner wall of the housing. An insulating powder is packed in a chamber defined by the inner wall of the housing, the flange and an outer wall of the sensing element to provide an air-tight seal between an air chamber to which one end of the sensing element is exposed and a gas chamber to which the other end of the sensing element is exposed. The air-tight seal has the structure designed to minimize an air leakage and breakage of the sensing element when installed in the housing.

摘要: An improved structure of a gas sensor is provided. The gas sensor includes a gas sensitive element, a holder retaining therein the gas sensitive element, and a protective cover installed on the holder. The protective cover has a flange which is retained in a groove formed in the holder by crimping an outer extension formed on the holder adjacent the groove. The geometries of the groove in the holder and the flange of the protective cover are so determined as to provide for ease of installation of the protective cover on the holder, firm engagement of the protective cover with the groove of the holder, and ease of machining of the groove of the holder.

摘要: A method for producing composite staple fibers whereby resin matrix and fine and short inorganic reinforcing fibers (e.g., vapor growth carbon fibers and/or potassium titanate whiskers) are processed. A resin material and fine and short inorganic reinforcing fibers having a fiber diameter of 1 .mu.m or less are blended, heated, and mixed to prepare a molten polymer containing dispersed reinforcing fibers. The molten polymer is spouted out of small apertures in a high speed rotator to form filaments. Hot gas is blown onto the spouted filaments to form composite staple fibers. Instead of using the spouting step and the hot gas blowing step, one can spin the molten polymer from spinning apertures into filaments, and simultaneously blow hot gas onto the filaments at a high flow velocity from gas discharging holes arranged near the spinning apertures to draw and cut the filaments into the staple fibers.
