摘要: A polarization conversion element having plural polarization separation sections and plural phase modulation sections is disclosed. A light flux is separated into transmission light (P polarization) and reflection light (S polarization) by being input to a polarization separation section. The reflection light reflected at the polarization separation section is output in the same direction as that of the transmission light by being reflected again at an adjacent polarization separation section at a different position from a position where a light flux is input to the adjacent polarization separation section. The phase modulation section is disposed on an optical path of the transmission light or the reflection light and output light becomes the same polarization.

摘要: An illumination apparatus includes a reflector including a parabolic or ellipsoidal mirror, a light source arranged near a (first) focal point of the reflector, and a front mirror having a transparent window and a mirror surface symmetrical about the light axis. Luminous flux emitted from the light source is reflected from the reflector. In the case of the parabolic mirror, the front mirror has the same size as an entrance of an output light utilizing optical system, and the luminous flux exits toward the optical system as collimated light. In the case of the ellipsoidal mirror, the front mirror is arranged between two focal points of the ellipsoidal mirror, and the luminous flux is directed toward the second focal point. However, at least one part of the luminous flux is reflected from the front mirror and returned toward the first focal point.

摘要: In an optical pickup method and device of the present invention, a grating unit separates a light beam, emitted by a light source, into a 0th order diffracted beam and 1st order diffracted beams. An objective lens focuses the diffracted beams, sent from the grating unit, onto a recording surface of an optical recording medium through a transparent substrate of the medium, so that a main spot is formed on the recording surface by the 0th order diffracted beam and sub-spots, interposing the main spot therebetween, are formed on the recording surface by the 1st order diffracted beams. A reflection beam detector receives reflection beams from the main spot and the sub-spots of the medium to generate detection signals from the received reflection beams. A control unit changes a pattern of the beams incident to the objective lens to correct a spherical aberration due to a deviation of a thickness of the substrate of the medium, and moves the grating unit relative to the light source to cancel shifting of sub-spot positions on the recording surface due to the spherical aberration correction, in order to generate a proper tracking error signal.
