    摘要: An optical navigation system. The optical navigation system includes an image sensor capable of optical coupling to a surface of an object, a data storage device, and a navigation circuit. The image sensor includes multiple photosensitive elements with the number of photosensitive elements disposed in a first direction greater than the number of photosensitive elements disposed in a second direction. The second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. The image sensor is capable of capturing successive images of areas of the surface, the areas located along an axis parallel to the first direction. The data storage device is capable of storing the captured images. The navigation circuit includes a first digital circuit for determining an estimate for the relative displacement between the image sensor and the object along the axis obtained by comparing the image captured subsequent to the displacement to the image captured previous to the displacement.

    摘要: An optical navigation device detects relative motion of non-optically flat surfaces, e.g. fingers by comparing the captured images of the surface texture, e.g. ridges on the finger. Within a housing, a light source and a sensor array are positioned proximately. The sensor array is mounted on a substrate. A lens array interposes the surface to be imaged and the sensor array such that a 1:1 image of the surface, e.g. finger surface of the user onto the 2D sensor array, is formed. The micro-lenses may be designed to match individual pixels on the sensor array, or the each element of the lens array is used to cover a group of pixels on the sensor. The micro-lenses may be positioned such that the image is formed onto the sensor array or formed in a plane in space such that the image is defocused from the surface.

    摘要: An optical position-tracking system comprises an optical device for generating an incident light beam and a reference light beam from a light beam. Moreover, the optical position-tracking system further comprises a light beam steering device for sweeping the incident light beam through an angular range to cause a reflection of the incident light beam by a target, whereas the reflection of the incident light beam is directed to interfere with the reference light beam to form an interference light beam. Additionally, the optical position-tracking system enables determination of a position of the target using an interferometric technique utilizing an angular value of the incident light beam and the interference light beam, whereas the angular value depends on the reflection.

A system may comprise a substrate, a roller in close contact with the substrate, and a motion sensor that tracks the motion of the roller. A substrate is advanced by an advancement mechanism towards a printing mechanism, and a roller is placed in contact with the substrate so that movement of the substrate results in movement of the roller. Optical and/or motion sensors may be used to track the motion of the roller. In some embodiments, more than one motion sensor may be used to track the motion of the ball roller in more than one plane of movement.

A neutralizing element is disposed on the support surface for alignment with at least one exposed surface of an optics module of the mouse and is configured to neutralize the optical effect of a contaminant on the at least one exposed surface. A method of neutralizing contaminants for an optical mouse comprises providing a mouse containing an optics module having at least one surface exposed to an opening of the mouse and interposing a barrier in the mouse between a contaminant and the at least one exposed surface. A method of detecting contaminants comprises aligning an optics module of a mouse with an imaging surface, obtaining a first image of the imaging surface, via application of coherent illumination from the optics module to the imaging surface, analyzing the first image to identify an interference pattern associated with a contaminant, alerting a user if a parameter of the interference pattern exceeds a threshold value.
