    摘要: A shaftless compressor module has a module casing containing an axial chamber and an annular chamber which is coaxial with the axial chamber. An annular motor stator can be fixedly positioned in the annular chamber coaxially with the longitudinal axis of the axial chamber. An annular motor rotor can be positioned in the annular chamber coaxially with the annular motor stator. A shaftless impeller is rotatably mounted within the axial chamber. The impeller has a plurality of impeller passageways, with one end of each passageway being open to the inlet of the module casing and the other end of each passageway being located in a radially outer periphery of the impeller. Magnetic bearings can counter axial thrust and radial thrust. Annular gas seals can prevent gas flow through the second chamber. A plurality of these modules can be connected together to form a multiple stage shaftless compressor wherein each impeller can be driven at a different speed. Two compressor modules can be connected together by a communication module so that the two compressor modules can have a common output or be in series with or without an intermediate side stream.

    摘要: A cylindrical gas compressor has inlet valves confined therewithin, at opposite ends thereof, and discharge valves, shaft-mounted therebetween, for reciprocation to ingest and compress admitted gas. Outboard of the inlet valves are circular plates from which extend a plurality of fingers. The plates are confined within chambers in the compressor, and radial ports are provided for admitting pressured fluid to the plates to cause them to move inboard, whereby the fingers penetrate the inlet valves and remove the inlet valve valving elements off the valve seat, effecting unloading of the inlet valves. Springs hold the plates outboard of the inlet valves, to allow the valves to function normally-loaded, in the absence of the plate-displacing, ports-admitted, pressured fluid.

    摘要: A shaft seal element (20) for use around a rotatable shaft (10) has an annular sealing surface (22) facing a radially adjacent surface of the shaft or housing. This sealing surface (22) can comprise two outer annular lands (26, 27) with an inner land (28) therebetween. A relief groove (29, 30) separates the inner land (28) from each outer land (26, 27). A plurality of fluid redirecting grooves (40) are obliquely formed across the inner land (28). A protruding ridge (44) is formed at the trailing edge (40b) of each redirecting groove (40). The ridges (44) and redirecting grooves (40) inhibit fluid migration across the sealing surface (22) and divert a portion of the fluid towards the high pressure end of the seal element.

    摘要: The compressor has a straight cylinder wholly confined within which are inlet valves, and reciprocatable discharge valves. One inlet valve is set in place by a centerbolt which can be turned by a wrench (or the like) to move the inlet valve to selected positions relative to its confronting discharge valve, whereby the volume of the clearance pocket is varied. The centerbolt mounted inlet valve, then, comprises an instrument for selectively varying the clearance pocket volume, obviating any need for any special clearance pocket varying devices or components.
