Abstract:
A stack of folded sheets includes right and left Z folded sheets and right and left V folded sheets which are arranged and interfolded so that the stack is balanced and has uniform bulk across its width. Withdrawal of the top sheet of the stack lifts the next sheet into position for withdrawal.
Abstract:
A center driven unwind system including a pair of horizontally spaced-apart side frames defining the beginning of a path of travel of the web being unwound from a parent roll for processing by a rewinder, a U-shaped arm structure pivotally mounted adjacent the U-shape base on each side frame with each arm of the U-shape adjacent the arm free end being equipped with a retractable chuck for insertion into a parent roll core, a variable speed drive operably associated with each chuck and adapted to develop an increasing rotational speed characteristic in the chuck as a parent roll carried by the chuck is unwound, a core table positioned adjacent the frame and adapted to receive from the U-shaped arm structure a partially unwound parent roll, the core table being equipped with a cradle for rotatably supporting the partially unwound roll after the chucks have been retracted therefrom, sensors provided on the U-shaped arm structure for positioning the chucks for introduction into the core of a parent roll to be subsequently unwound, and a thread-up conveyor adjacent the core table for conducting a leading edge portion of a web from the parent roll to be subsequently unwound toward the tail end portion of a web from the partially unwound parent roll for simultaneous introduction into a rewinder.
Abstract:
A breathable girth former for a packaging machine for bathroom tissue and kitchen toweling rolls wherein the entrance funnel (preformer) has two halves resiliently mounted to conform to the product dimension most likely to jam in the downstream girth former. The funnel halves movement is transmitted to the girth tube former halves by a mechanical linkage to provide the same spacing as in the funnel.
Abstract:
A coreless surface winder and method wherein two of the winding drums are slightly spaced apart by a distance less than two web thicknesses which then operate to cause a folded leading edge on a transversely severed web to roll upon itself and develop an incipient log which thereafter is completed in a conventional three drum cradle to provide a coreless retail sized roll.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for flexographic printing wherein a press having a frame is equipped with an ink transfer roll, a subframe is movably mounted on the frame adjacent the transfer roll, a holder being movably mounted on the subframe, the holder being equipped with upper and lower doctor blades engaging the transfer roll and end seals defining with the roll a liquid chamber, and an ink inlet and an ink outlet in the holder, the subframe having portions clamping the doctor blades to the holder, the subframe being pivotally mounted on the frame for movement away from the ink transfer roll, the subframe being equipped with a cylinder for moving the holder so as to unclamp the doctor blades for replacement.
Abstract:
A surface rewinder and method wherein a three drum cradle includes spaced apart first and second winding drums and wherein the speed profile of the second winding drum is controlled to substantially eliminate slippage between the second winding drum and a web being wound on a core by increasing the speed of the second drum after passage between the space as a function of the increasing diameter of the roll being wound.
Abstract:
In a bag making machine utilizing clamp bar assemblies in combination with a sealing drum, the improved clamp assembly wherein the clamp is coupled to a channel bight, the clamp and channel being related to the conventional pivot shaft by means of a circumferentially-extending pivot pin and with clearance between the channel and pivot shaft.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for printing plate cylinder--impression cylinder registration for a multi color flexographic press wherein pin means are provided on the plate cylinder gear and finger means provided on the impression cylinder gear and when the two come in contact upon rotation of the impression cylinder gear, the plate cylinder gear rotates through a small arc during which time the gears are brought into meshing engagements.
Abstract:
A saw mechanism for logs convolutely wound on cores and method wherein the upstream end of the log has its core supported on a support member attached to a log-advancing pusher, the chain carrying the pushers being equipped with stripper plates immediately downstream of the pushers to strip trim annuli from the pusher support members incident to arcuate movement of the stripper plate around the chain tail sprocket.
Abstract:
A surface winder is provided for developing rolls of web material wound on a core including a magazine for dispensing cores sequentially and a nip for receiving cores sequentially, the core transport means between said source and nip arranged to follow a generally hypocycloidal path to provide cusps for adhesive application to the core and for introducing cores into the nip, a surface winder including a pair of winding belts traveling at different speeds and in different directions, and web severence means including a pair of web pinching points one of which is on the moving web and the other on a stationary part of the web.
