摘要: A spinal retractor for use in lumbar or dorsal laminectomies or spinal fusions, and for microscopic lumbar laminectomies, which comprises a pair of parallel arms and a corresponding pair of toothed blades which are slidably received on the arms, the blades being forced apart from one another by the arms under the control of a rack and pinion mechanism. The blades are constructed so that their teeth and configuration serve to hold the lumbar musculature when they are forced apart and adequately to expose the facets, and the blades are also configured so that they will not slip out of the wound as they are spread apart by the retractor arms.

摘要: There is disclosed an improved fastener and driver assembly which assures sufficient depth of engagement between the drive socket of the fastener and the working portion of the driver bit to provide efficient torque transfer from the driver to the fastener. The assembly includes a fastener having a recessed drive socket which is multi-lobular in cross-section, having an inner surface formed by alternating and smoothly joined flutes and lobes. The assembly also includes a driver for imparting rotational torque to the fastener which includes a head portion having a tip end and a center axis. The head portion of the driver is correspondingly multi-lobular in cross-section. The flutes are formed generally parallel to the center axis of the driver while the lobes of the head portion are tapered axially, converging toward the tip end of the head portion. This arrangement enables the driver head to enter the fastener socket to a predetermined depth, without binding, to thereby insure sufficient depth of engagement between the fastener lobes and the driver flutes to provide efficient torque transfer from the driver to the fastener.

摘要: A compression screw for applying compression at a bone joint. The compression screw includes an axial screw body extending from a distal end to a proximal end with the distal end including a series of bone engaging threads configured to be self-drilling and self-tapping and the proximal end including a head which defines a radially extending shoulder. At least one proximal rotary cutting structure is defined proximally of the bone engaging threads. The at least one proximal rotary cutting structure is configured to be self-drilling such that a proximal portion of the axial screw body cuts into and advances within a bone of the bone joint as the axial screw body is advanced. A method of inserting the compression screw is also provided.

摘要: A twist-drivable pin assembly includes first and second drivers, each having a driving end which can be received in a bore in the end of a twist-drivable pin, and an opposite end at which torque can be applied. The cross-sectional shape of each of the drivers at its driving end has a first plurality of apexes whose relative locations coincide with the apexes of a regular polygon such as a hexagon. The drivers differ from one another in their cross-sectional shapes at the driving end by virtue of one or more faces of at least one of the drivers between adjacent pairs of apexes having a groove formed in it. Each of first and second twist-drivable pins has a bore extending into it which is defined by a second plurality of apexes arranged as a regular polygon such as a hexagon and which is open at one end.

摘要: A method and device for inserting screws into a patient, such that when the device is removed the device does not stick to the screw. The device, being a push-off driver, may have a handle, an inner driver, and a threaded driver sleeve having a button mechanism and a plurality of spheres, and an inner sleeve. The method includes the steps of assembling a push-off driver attaching a bone screw to the push-off driver inserting the bone screw and detaching the bone screw from the driver by unthreading the threaded driver sleeve from the polyaxial screw which causes the spheres in the recess of the inner driver to back up against the start of the recess and causing the threaded driver sleeve to “push-off” the polyaxial screw from the inner driver.
