摘要: Cooling an extruding thermoplastic tube by feeding the tube adjacent a cooling surface, maintaining a sheath of heat-transfer fluid between the tube and surface and preferentially cooling at least a selected area of the tube by transversely displacing the tube to decrease the thickness of the sheath between the selected area and the cooling surface. The invention is particularly suitable, for the production of thermoplastic films by orienting a cast tubular extrudate which has been cooled by means of an internal mandrel.

摘要: An extruder is operated continuously to produce a plastically deformable strand that is pulled through a calibrating die and a cooling by a withdrawal arrangement downstream of the die in the bath. A sensor detects the volume of the strand between the tool and the extruder and controls the withdrawal rate in accordance with the volume of the strand between the tool and the extruder so as to produce an accurately calibrated extrusion. The sensor may engage the strand at the bank formed immediately upstream of the mouth of the calibrating die or may be upstream therefrom and detect the hang or droop of the strand between the die and the extruder.

摘要: A gauging or calibrating device for tubular films formed by a blowing process comprises a plurality of support rings surrounding the tubular film in a zone where the film is still plastic. Each support ring, which may be divided in one or two places is formed from a curved spindle and a heat-resistant and nonadhesive covering which can rotate on the spindle. The covering can be formed either from a flexible tube mounted on support rollers, or it can be formed by a number of closely spaced individual rollers. The ends of the curved spindle are held in adjustable mounts which permit the diameter of the support ring to be adjusted.
