摘要: Method for making multiple durometer bulb seals and any other types of multiple durometer seals and moldings includes cooling separately at least one structural member and at least one sealing portion, which have different durometers and shapes. At least a first extrusion is drawn through an extruder, forming a structural member profile and the extruded material is pulled along a longitudinal axis to a first calibrator device and first cooling tank to cool the structural member profile to a predetermined temperature. Cooling medium directly contacts the outer and inner surfaces of the first profile. Downstream, the sealing portion is extruded and affixed onto the cooled structural member and pulled further downstream to a second calibrator device and through a second cooling tank to cool the final profile a predetermined amount. Disparity in cooling expansion and cooling differential between the multiple durometers and shapes is avoided or overcome.

摘要: A method for controlling the temperature of a polymer melt in an extrusion tool includes flowing the polymer melt via at least one flow channel from an input to an output and around at least one temperature-control element in the at least one flow channel. The temperature control element includes a plurality of temperature control units. The temperature of the polymer melt flowing around the temperature-control element is controlled by individually controlling each of the temperature-control units so as to vary a degree of temperature control of the temperature-control element such that a degree of temperature control is controllable to be the same or different at locations throughout the temperature control-element.

摘要: A composite pipe comprises a polyetheretherketone innermost pipe around which a reinforcing overwrap is arranged. A protective sheath surrounds the overwrap. Such a composite pipe may be made by selecting a polyetheretherketone pipe having an outer region having a crystallinity of less than 25%; overlaying the selected pipe with overwrap; and subjecting the combination to heat, thereby causing the crystallinity of the outer region of the polyetheretherketone pipe to increase. The method reduces the risk of pipe failure.

摘要: A prepreg that contains a plurality of unidirectionally aligned continuous fibers embedded within a thermoplastic polymer matrix is provided. In addition to continuous fibers, the prepreg also contains a plurality of long fibers that are combined with the continuous fibers so that they are randomly distributed within the thermoplastic matrix. As a result, at least a portion of the long fibers become oriented at an angle (e.g., perpendicular) relative to the direction of the continuous fibers. Through such orientation, the long fibers can substantially increase the mechanical properties of the prepreg in the transverse direction (e.g., strength) and thus achieve a more isotropic material. Although unique isotropic prepregs are one aspect of the present invention, it should be understood that this is not a requirement. In fact, one notable feature of the present invention is the ability to tailor the mechanical properties of the prepreg for an intended application by selectively controlling certain process parameters, such as the type of long fibers employed, the type of continuous fibers employed, the concentration of the long fibers, the concentration of the continuous fibers, the thermoplastic resin(s) employed, etc.

摘要: A method and apparatus for moving along a tube extrusion line. An extruded tube is pushed through the extrusion line, by means of pressure generated by an extruder, to a withdrawal unit that takes over further driving of the tube. In a first-moving along phase, in which the tube has not yet passed a sealing of a calibration cooling unit relative to the atmosphere, the latter is under atmospheric pressure. In a second phase, in which the tube has passed the sealing, the calibration and cooling unit is placed under underpressure. In the first phase, the tube is supported either by internal overpressure or by a mechanical inner guide. A support cylinder extends axially from a casing head of the extruder and extends coaxially into a calibration sleeve in a first section of the calibration and cooling unit. A support plate is disposed between the casing head and an inlet of the calibration sleeve and provides external support for a tube exiting the casing head.

The chain links are disposed in at least two planes, overlap one another from plane to plane in overlap zones, and are pivotably connected. Facing ends of the chain links of a given plane of chain links have identical gear wheel contours that mesh with one another. Adjustment of the tube support mechanism from one nominal diameter to another is effected by a pressure effect, onto the tube support mechanism, of a conical tube transition piece that results during the change in diameter during continuing operation. An angle of contact of the tube support mechanism against a tube successively changes.

The mobile extrusion plant 10 further comprises a transportable delivery system 18 for delivering the raw plastics material from the transportable container 16 to the die and former assembly 12 whereby, in use, the entire plant can be transported to a remote location and operated to manufacture an extruded plastics product.
