    摘要: An apparatus for rotating a cap relatively to a container. The container moves along a predetermined path at a container speed. The cap has a first and a second cap engagement location. The first and second cap engagement locations are circumferentially spaced apart relative to each other. The apparatus includes a first cap engaging component, the first cap engaging component including a first component cap engaging surface for engaging the cap at the first cap engagement location and applying a first substantially tangential force thereto. The first cap engaging surface moves at a first speed when substantially in register with the first cap engagement location. A second cap engaging component includes a second component cap engaging surface for engaging the cap at the second cap engagement location and applying a second substantially tangential force thereto. The second cap engaging surface moves at a second speed when substantially in register with the second cap engagement location. The first and second cap engaging components are operatively coupled to each other for maintaining substantially constant the sum of the first and second speed.

    摘要: The system for removing or replacing caps for vials in a fixed array includes a removable cartridge with a plurality of sets of gripper plates corresponding to the number of columns in the array. Each plate has a plurality of gripper arms corresponding to the number of rows in the array. The gripper arms have hooked ends which are oriented in opposite directions in each set of plates. Relative positioning of the gripper arms is varied by one or more rotating cams, which cause the gripper arms on one plate of each set to move relative to the gripper arms of the other plate(s) of the set, varying the combined width and/or relative angle of the gripper arms to manipulate a cap inserted into the end of each vial. The plurality of plate sets and gripper arms allow all vials in the array to be capped or de-capped simultaneously.

    摘要: According to an aspect of the invention, an apparatus for self-sealing of a reaction vessel, such that the reaction vessel may be repeatedly accessed by a fluid transfer mechanism and subsequently self-sealed, is detailed. The reaction vessel has an access opening, and the apparatus comprises a cap, a ball which is comprised of a magnetizable material (such as a ferrous metal), and a ring magnet. The cap is sized to fit over the reaction vessel access opening, and has an access port. The cap has an internal surface which faces the reaction vessel, and an external surface, which faces away from the reaction vessel. The ball is sized to fit over the cap access port, such that a portion of the ball seats partially in the cap access port on the cap internal surface, thus sealing the cap access port. According to an aspect of the invention, the ball may be comprised of a ferromagnetic material, or a magnetizable material that is preferably magnetized. The ring magnet produces a magnetic field, and is mounted to the cap on the cap external surface. The ring magnet is spaced from the cap such that the magnetic field is sufficient to hold the ball in the cap access port, and to reseat the ball in the cap access port after the reaction vessel is accessed.

    摘要: A capping machine (10) and method for installing a cap (12) having a threaded portion onto a container (14) having a threaded portion, the threaded portion of the cap corresponding to the threaded portion of the container, the capping machine having a rotatable turret (20) and a rotatable cap chuck (16) which grips the cap and positions the cap on the container. The cap chuck is rotated by a spindle (22) driven by a servo motor (24) at adjustable and reversible rotational velocities independent of the rotational velocity of the turret. The number of rotations of the cap is determined by monitoring the number of rotations of the servo motor compared to the number of rotations of the turret and is transmitted to a spindle drive control(70). The torque imparted to the cap is monitored by a torque monitor (50) and is transmitted to the spindle drive control. The rotational velocity of the cap is adjustable in response to the compared monitored number of rotations and monitored torque. The capped container is released from the cap chuck after a selected number of rotations of the cap onto the container has been made. Caps applied outside a selected range of monitored torques and number of rotations are tracked and rejected.

The control means are such as to rotate the cap in the unscrewing sense, monitor the relative angular position of the cap when the screwthreads of the cap and the neck momentarily disengage, by means of the screwthread-disengagement means, and then to rotate the cap in the screwing sense by a predetermined amount dependent upon the length of the screwthreads.
