Abstract: An improved impact saddle is provided for use in place of a conventional impact roller assembly, for supporting a bulk material conveyor at an impact zone. The assembly includes a support frame which is adapted to be positioned in transverse relation to the length of the belt. The support frame forms a pair of side-by-side T-shaped supports which extend in parallel relation transversely of the belt. A plurality of polymeric low friction segments, such as high molecular weight polyethylene, are formed with lower T-shaped slots which are adapted to receive the T-shaped supports for threading onto the support frame. The segments have upper surfaces which collectively form a support for a section of the conveyor belt in the impact zone.

Abstract: A hinged belt conveyor is provided with spring biased idler compensating rolls for exerting a vertical upward force on the central troughing portion of the hinged belt on the loaded belt flight in relationship to the amount of material being carried by the belt at various locations and in relationship to the tension in the belt for conveying particulate materials along an inclined or declined path. The belt extends between a head pulley and a tail pulley, one of which is power driven. Spaced idler troughing roll sets extend transversely beneath the troughing portion of the belt. Certain of the roll sets include a horizontal roll which is spring biased upwardly into contact with the central portion of the belt by vertically acting springs engaged with the outer ends of the horizontal roll shaft. In one embodiment the horizontal roll is the center roll of a usual three roll set, and in another embodiment the horizontal roll is a single roll extending transversely across and beneath the width of the belt. The tension of the springs are adjustable to correspond with the belt tension which varies along the belt length.

Abstract: A conveyor belt is provided for carrying granular coal or ore from a mine or a crushing station, together with a belt heater in the form of a fuel burner which turns on to melt ice which as formed on the belt at temperatures below freezing. The belt heater heats the conveyor belt surface to a temperature sufficient to melt the ice film to form water and thereby prevent the granular coal or ore from sliding to impair the conveying operation of the conveyor belt or to cause spillage from the conveyor belt. When the conveyor belt stops, the fuel burner stops and thus prevents damage to the conveyor belt. A preferred fuel burner is an oil heater. An infrared heater can also be used but a fuel burner is preferred in flame contact with the belt. The flame of the fuel burner when used in direct contact with the conveyor belt can be immediately shut off when the conveyor belt stops and thereby prevents damage to the conveyor belt. The flame temperature or air temperature reaches a value of at least about 400.degree. C., preferably about 450.degree. C. to 850.degree. C. An electrical system is provided to shut down the fuel burner as soon as the conveyor belt stops. Belt heater is useful even if no ice film is formed on the conveyor belt by heating the hinge or fold area of the folding conveyor belt. An oil burner housing is provided with an air access door to permit debris dropping from the conveyor belt near the flame to be removed.

Abstract: An elongatable conveyor belt having an internal stretch limiter is disclosed. The conveyor belt includes a lower layer of transverse reinforcing cords and an upper layer of transverse reinforcing cords disposed at opposing angles relative to the transverse axis of the conveyor belt. Preferably, depressions are formed in the upper transverse reinforcing cords to facilitate troughing of the conveyor belt. An internal stretch limiter such as an angularly woven fabric, sinusoidally disposed cords or stretchable cords are provided only in the central region of the belt. Because stretch limiting devices are only provided in the center of the conveyor belt, the belt remains in tension to retain material thereon during horizontal curves while enabling the outer edge to elongate to negotiate the curve.

Abstract: An apron conveyor having a chain formed by a plurality of elongated links. Each link has a forward end pivotally connected to a rearward end of an adjacent link. An apron member is fixed to each link. Each apron member includes a base plate having a front end portion on one apron member overlapping a rear end portion of an adjacent apron member. Abstract: A bucket conveyor system 13 for a harvesting machine which can move along a row of plants. The bucket conveyor system has a pair of parallel endless roller chains 18 guided for movement along a generally rectangular path 17, and open-topped buckets 19 connected to the chains 18 at equally spaced intervals along the chains. The buckets each have a rear lip 36 extending over and beyond the front wall 32 of the next rearward bucket 19 to prevent gaps through which harvested fruit or juice can fall. The sole connection of the buckets 19 to the chains 18 is by a single shaft 44 projecting outward from the upper end of each side wall 31 of the buckets. As a bucket 19 is elevated, a fixed vertical bucket guide 27c engages a substantially vertical front wall 32 of the bucket to keep the bucket erect, with the engagement of the bucket guide 27c with the bucket wall 32 being at a substantial distance from the pivot connections 44 of the bucket to the chains to minimize stress in the bucket. As a bucket is tilted for discharge, a fixed curved bucket guide 27d engages the upper edge 37 of the bucket to cause its gradual inversion, with the engagement of the curved bucket guide 27d with the bucket edge 37 being at a substantial distance from the pivot connections 44 of the bucket to the chains to minimize stress in the bucket.
