Abstract: An implementation of the disclosure provides a system for generating low impact snapshots comprising a memory to store application data and a processing device coupled to the memory. The processing device is to identify a plurality of transactions within a cloud computing environment. Each of the transactions comprising an operation associated with a storage device of the cloud computing environment. A transaction queue that is storing identifiers of high and low priority database operations to be performed by an application on the storage device is monitored. The monitoring indicates how many transactions are currently being processed. A snapshot policy that stores conditions in which a snapshot can be generated without adversely impacting performance of the storage device is evaluated based on the monitored transaction queue. In view of the evaluating, a point-in-time snapshot is generated which includes at least part of the storage device comprising state information for the application.

Abstract: A database storage system based on optical disk includes a database management system installed on a server, a magnetic disk storage device and an optical disk storage device connecting, via a data connection, to the server. The database management system processes database management and data management in response to data requests and a database is created in the magnetic disk storage device, and includes a field structure generation module, a record index generation module, a storage space allocation module, a storage space status module, a record linkage module, a record split module and a database creation on optical disk module. The integrity of data is maintained during a database backup process. The optical disk containing a subdatabase accepts the management of the database management system to serve as a normal data source. The databases are hierarchically stored using the storage devices. The methods for database backup and restoration are provided.

Abstract: Technologies are described for facilitating database system recovery in a distributed database environment having a master node and at least one slave node. The at least one slave node receives a preliminary slave log backup position. The at least one slave node replays at least a portion of one or more log backups until the preliminary log backup position is reached. The at least one slave node receives a final slave log backup position. The slave node replays at least a portion of one or more log backups until the final slave log backup position is reached.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for providing support for identification of the problem root cause in a computing system. Knowledge base mapping monitoring programs with respective to one or more technical problem definitions and a predefined system configuration are provided. The technical problems are defined using a predefined data structure. An inquiry relating to the computing system is received from a requester. The inquiry indicates a technical problem statement of the computing system. The received inquiry is parsed for constructing a problem description in accordance with the predefined data structure. A set of monitoring programs of the knowledge base may be identified using the problem description. Using software and/or hardware configuration data of the computing system, the set of monitoring programs may be instantiated in a monitor system. The instantiated programs may be provided to the requester as support for identification of the problem root cause.

Abstract: In a high insert throughput in a database system, the database management system (DBMS) caches, asynchronously from data insert transactions, a list of storage location identifiers for storage locations in a table space in the database system. When a request for an insert transaction with an insert size is received from an agent, the DBMS identifies a storage location on the list with an amount of free space meeting the insert size. The DBMS removes the storage location identifier from the list and returns the storage location identifier for the storage location. When the insert transaction completes, the DBMS determines a remaining free space at the storage location and adds the storage location identifier to the list according to the remaining free space. By removing storage location identifiers from the list, another agent cannot receive the same storage location identifier for a parallel task. Thus, space contention is avoided.
