Abstract: Optical arrangements are provided by which observers of flat containers or display boxes, such as compact disc (CD) jewel boxes, can be presented with different information about the contents of the box when looking at one of its surfaces from different angular perspectives. Advantageously, parallax effects are compensated where the size of the observable images and the viewing distance create undesirable visual artifacts. Horizontally and vertically oriented lenticulated panels are used in combination with interlaced images to convey the differently coded views without the need for physically manipulating such boxes as in the past to see equivalent information. Compliant inserts preferably provide the information content of the various views and are adapted for use with industry automated insert machinery while being self aligning with the lenticulated panels. These arrangements enhance the possibilities for displaying more and different kinds of information on a given box surface area compared with conventional approaches, and as such, enhance the prospects for increasing initial and multiple sales of CD products.

Abstract: Items of merchandise (30) are protected from shoplifting or theft by affixing to them special responder targets (32), which are formed by drawing a material of high magnetic permeability into a thin wire and thereafter rolling the wire into a flattened strip and annealing the strip and severing the strip into individual lengths. Abstract: A marker adapted to be used with cloth or fabric articles to enable the detection thereof in an electromagnetic article surveillance system within which the marker generates a detectable signal related to an alternating electromagnetic field applied within an interrogation zone, wherein the marker comprises an elongated strip of amorphous ferromagnetic ribbon sealed on all major surfaces within flexible polymeric cover layers having a low rate of water vapor transmission, and a high degree of thermal stability, puncture resistance and conformability, such that the articles having the marker included therein may be subjected to repeated flexing and high temperature and humidity conditions such as encountered in commercial laundry operations without affecting the magnetic properties of the marker, while also not appreciably stiffening the article itself, thus being readily attached to or concealed therein.
