    Abstract: A dipole antenna for wide-band communications. Some embodiments relate to a multilayer planar high-gain antenna for ultra-wideband communications having a broadband dipole structure, a tuning plate and a feed arranged roughly parallel to one another and separated from one another with dielectric materials. In one embodiment, the antenna includes four conductive layers, a reflector, which is preferably rectangular, a broadband bowtie preferably of bowtie shape, a feed structure and a parasitic element or tuning patch.

    Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna exhibiting a multiple resonance is disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, a dipole antenna and a loop antenna are disposed upon a substrate and have dimensions and orientation to exhibit the multiple resonance. The dipole antenna may exhibit a first dipole section having a first length and second dipole section having a second length. The loop antenna may be disposed in a region of the dipole antenna. The ratio of the perimeter of the loop antenna to the sum of the lengths of the dipole sections may be selected to exhibit the multiple resonance.

    Abstract: According to various aspects, exemplary embodiments are provided of bow tie antennas and antenna assemblies that include the same. In an exemplary embodiment, a bow tie antenna includes a pair of antenna elements. Each antenna element includes spaced apart end portions defining an open portion such that the antenna element has an open shape. The open shape is closed by dielectric material disposed between the spaced apart end portions and extending across a gap separating the spaced apart end portions, whereby the dielectric material and pair of antenna elements cooperatively define a closed bow tie shape for the bow tie antenna.

    Abstract: An apparatus has an improved antenna pattern for a cross dipole antenna. Such antennas desirably have an omnidirectional antenna pattern. Conventional cross dipole antennas exhibit nulls in their antenna patterns, which can cause antennas to deviate from a standard or specification. Applicant recognized and confirmed that the connection of a coaxial cable to the antenna arms is a cause of the nulls in the antenna pattern, and has devised techniques disclosed herein to compensate or cancel the effects of the connection. In one embodiment, the arms of the cross dipole antenna that are coupled to a center conductor of the coaxial cable remain of conventional length, but the arms of the cross dipole antenna that are coupled to a shield of the coaxial cable are lengthened by a fraction of the radius of the outer diameter of the coaxial cable.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, an integrated antenna and display shade for a wireless portable control unit is provided which includes a stowable display shade having two side panels and a front panel between the two side panels.
