摘要: A flotation separation apparatus for separating particles in suspensions, feeds slurry containing the particles through an inlet (10) into a contactor (16) where gas is fed through an inlet (12) to mix with the slurry, for example in a downwardly plunging jet (14), to form a gas-liquid bubbly two-phase mixture under pressure from an outlet restriction in a throttling duct (18). The mixture is passed through a flow manipulator configured to induce a high energy dissipation rate, for example by way of a Shockwave formed in a diverging section of the throttling duct (18) reducing the size of the bubbles and brining those bubbles into intimate contact with particles in the mixture which is released into a separation cell (21) where a flow manipulating draft tube (20) is provided to reduce turbulence in the mixture. Alternative apparatus and methods for inducing the high energy dissipation rate and for reducing turbulence in the mixture are also described and claimed.

摘要: In the process for separating off by flotation (pressure release) suspended matter from liquids which are present in a gas-introduction reactor, the suspension to be withdrawn for flotation is conducted at a flow velocity .ltoreq.0.3 m/s against the natural direction of bubble rise, gas being additionally introduced into the suspension. The gas-treated suspension is withdrawn at the bottom of the gas-introduction apparatus and it is fed to flotation.

摘要: The flotation apparatus comprising a container having a free liquid level of the fiber stock suspension which is fed essentially horizontally to the container by at least one infeed device. The infeed device contains at least one aeration element having an outlet cross-section located at a predetermined region which is 100 to 600 mm, preferably 50 to 250 mm, below the liquid level of the fiber stock suspension in the container. Between the end of the aeration element and the discharge mouth or opening of the infeed device which opens into the container there can be arranged an essentially horizontally extending starting path for quieting or stabilizing the flow of the fiber stock suspension. This starting path is provided at its initial region with an ascending cover member at which merges a channel having a free liquid level.

摘要: Oil and water mixtures are separated in a gas flotation separator by passing the mixture downward in a vertically elongated portion, and then upward in a vertically elongated portion. A gas such as air is injected near the lower end of the upward flow leg of the separator. The gas is injected at a sufficient hydrostatic pressure to effect dissolving of a substantial portion of the gas in the liquid. The upflow leg has a chamber for oil flotation. Oil removal as well as water removal from respective layers is provided. The separation of oil and water is enhanced by both upwardly bubbling gas and exsolving gas.

摘要: The invention is concerned with an improved flotation plant in which gassed solid particles can be removed from a carrying liquid stream by a separating means. The invention proposes curving the path along which the gassed stream passes upstream of the separating means to facilitate the separation of the gassed and ungassed components.

摘要: Suspended droplets of oil are separated from a waste water stream by the method and apparatus of the present invention. The oil and water mixture is injected into a partially submerged, vertical pipe. Gas bubbles injected into the lower end of the pipe, rise through the pipe and countercurrently contact the suspended oil droplets, thereby promoting the separation of the droplets from the waste water. The oil droplets coalesce and form a separate oil layer on top of the waste water which is readily withdrawn while clarified waste water is discharged from the lower end of the pipe. If employed to separate oil from a waste water stream on an offshore rig, the vertical pipe is submerged adjacent to the rig.

摘要: A method for separating substances from liquid by flotation using bubbles which comprises adsorbing a substance present in a liquid on bubbles, floating the bubbles adsorbing the substance and separating the substance from the bubbles, characterized by allowing the bubbles adsorbing the substance to ascend through a fluid route in a tube independent of the ambient turbulently flowing liquid and then collecting and separating the substance from the liquid at the upper end of the tube. An apparatus for separating substances from liquids by flotation using bubbles which comprises a vertical column provided at the bottom thereof with a gas-diffusing means and a tube placed inside the vertical column, the tube being smaller in diameter and length than the vertical column and being provided with a means for collecting bubbles at the lower end thereof and a means for accommodating and concentrating the collected bubbles at the upper end thereof. These method and apparatus are useful for the treatment of waste water and industrial effluents or of mineral extracts, especially for the purpose of recovering useful substances from a solution or suspension thereof or removing heavy metals and the like harmful substances from effluents.
