An improved method for impregnating a tubular lining material with a hardenable liquid resin employed in a pipe repair operation by lining the pipe internally with the lining material; the method comprises (a) supplying about the same amounts of the same hardenable liquid resin to two mixing baths, (b) mixing the hardenable liquid resin with an agent to retard hardening and another agent selected from catalyst to facilitate hardening and hardener in one of the mixing baths, and, at the same time, mixing the hardenable liquid resin with a hardening accelerator in another one of the mixing baths, (c) supplying predetermined amounts of these mixtures to a static mixer from the respective mixing baths, (d) mixing these mixtures together in the static mixer to obtain a final mixture of hardenable resin, (e) supplying the final mixture to the tubular lining material, and (f) impregnating the tubular lining material with the final mixture.

Sealant nozzle (10) includes a positioning spider (18) at its outlet end. Spider (18) is inserted into a mounting hole (50), or is secured to an outer surface, or is mounted in a corner region (76, 78) of a structure (46). Spider (18) includes a plurality of radial lugs (22) which bend about flex hinges (34), enabling the spider (18) to automatically conform to a range of hole sues. In a surface installation, the lugs (22) are glued to the surface. In a corner installation, some of the lugs (22) contact and are glued to intersecting surfaces (76, 78) which define the corner. A sealant is delivered into and through a passageway (26) in the nozzle (10), to and through an enlarged diameter end cavity (24) at the outlet of passageway (26), and then into the crack to be sealed.
Abstract:
An applicator for applying a fluid substance to a drilled hole as part of an automatic fastening machine. The fastener machine drills the hole in the workpiece, such as an aircraft wing panel, and then the substance applicator applies the substance to the hole, prior to subsequent installation of the fastener within the hole. The substance applicator, which is connected to a movable pressure foot, is pneumatically operated so that a head portion of the applicator is extended laterally over the hole, and a tip assembly in the head is extended vertically downward toward the hole. This operational sequence is accomplished by means of variable rate springs which bias the tip assembly and base to retracted positions. The substance is delivered to the tip assembly from a storage reservoir by means of a peristaltic pump. Positive shutoff of the substance to the tip assembly is achieved by a pivotally mounted shutoff arm assembly. When one end of the shutoff arm is engaged and elevated by the retracted head, the opposite end of the arm is depressed against the compressible tube to pinch off the sealant flow therethrough.

Adhesive applicators having a flexible valve disk which defines a metering chamber with a valve body, the valve body with the valve is insertable into a can component in close confinement thereby and the valve is operated by flexing the disk to compress the adhesive and spurt it against the confining surface of the can body to form a bead and band of adhesive into which the other can component is subsequently telescoped.

Apparatus for coating an internal wall of a curved conduit (50) with a layer of protective material, characterized in that it comprises a guide means (46, 46a), a longitudinally flexible member (44) which is transversely substantially rigid associated with the guide means, means for mounting a coating means (62) adjacent a first end of the flexible member for incremental rotation with the flexible member, a drive means (28) for driving the flexible member relative to a curved conduit (50) to be coated, so that the coating means can enter the curved conduit in use and so that the coating means can deposit a strip of protective material longitudinally of the conduit, and means (32, 34, 36) acting on the flexible member for automatically stepping the flexible member and consequently the coating means by a rotational increment after the coating means has completed a traverse of the conduit and for automatically reversing the drive means so that the apparatus deposits a strip of protective material adjacent the first laid strip.

A coating apparatus comprising a support assembly, a support moving mechanism for pivotally moving the support assembly about a horizontal axis, an applicator supported by the support assembly upwardly and downwardly movably, a position detector for detecting the raised or lowered position of the applicator, a pair of distance sensors attached to the support assembly and arranged one above the other at a distance for detecting the distance from the work surface to be coated, and a control unit connected to the position detector and to the distance sensors for causing the support moving mechanism to pivotally move the support assembly in response to detection signals from one of the distance sensors closer to the applicator to hold the applicator at a substantially constant distance from the work surface. Even when curved in the direction of the height, the work surface can be coated uniformly because the substantially constant distance is maintained between the applicator and the work surface.

The previously carried out internal coating of contact tubes not only required very much manual labor and was very time consuming, but it was also unsatisfactory in regard to adhesion of the contact liquid to the surface and homogenity of the catalyst. By the simultaneous action of heat on the liquid interface in the tubes during the lowering of the liquid level as well as by a specially suited apparatus for this purpose which operates according to the principle of communicating tubes there is provided the possibility of a good adhesion to the surface as well as the formation of a homogeneous layer at very little operating expense.

A coating fixture for holding and masking workpieces during a parylene batch coating process. A rigid frame and two face plates form an enclosure. The face plates have a plurality of holes, and the workpieces are located within the enclosure, so that they are aligned with the holes. In preferred embodiments, a separator plate located within the enclosure divides it into two article-receiving compartments, and gaskets are provided for sealably engaging the face plates to the frame and to the workpieces in each compartment. Vaporous coating material enters the face plate holes and coats only portions of the workpieces.

An apparatus and method for applying an adhesive to the edge of the can by inserting the can into the adhesive to its top surface and rotating the can 360.degree. or more, then past the edge of a doctor roll to remove excess adhesive in a selected region and then advancing the cans through an induction heater in a continuous motion until the can reaches a discharge station where it is released.

The present invention relates to a device for simultaneously projecting a liquid or pasty product and a powdery, granulous or fibrous filler to make a reinforced plastic wall coating, in which the product is brought by pumping to a centrifugal projection member with central supply channel, wherein it comprises, for projecting the product, a revolving spray device with its central supply channel and, for projecting the powdery filler, a centrifugal wheel and a means for supplying the filler to the centrifugal wheel, the revolving spray device and the centrifugal wheel being mounted on the same shaft in the vicinity of each other.
