Abstract: A device that includes a piece of armor made from a material that has a domain of plastic deformation under bad before breaking and an elastic deformation domain. The plastic deformation domain represents less than 1% of the elastic deformation domain. The device includes a deformation sensor fixed to the piece of armor and configured to deform plastically under the effect of at least a stress applied to the piece of armor and leading to damage of the piece of armor.

Abstract: Various braking devices, systems, and methods are disclosed. In some embodiments, the braking device includes a support element, a block of friction material supported by the support element, at least one piezoceramic sensor supported by the support element and interposed between the block of friction material (and the support element, and a protective element located at the piezoceramic sensor and embedding the latter. The protective element can have one or more layers of resin-based material applied to protect the piezoceramic sensor and direct a predetermined part of the external compression force onto an area of the support element surrounding the piezoceramic sensor. In some embodiments, a signal transduction device is provided and includes at least one piezoceramic sensor supported on a support element and has an integral protective coating having properties of mechanical and temperature resistance.

Abstract: In one general aspect, a composite foam comprises a non-layered mixture of a polymeric foam with a plurality of voids; and a plurality of conductive fillers disposed in the polymeric foam. The conductive fillers are disposed in an even manner from outer surface to outer surface. In some implementations, the conductive fillers are up to 25% by weight of the composite foam. In some implementations, the composite foam may be used as padding. In some implementations, the composite foam may be used as a strain gauge. In some implementations, the foam may be in contact with a voltage detector.

Abstract: A stress sensing assembly includes: a stretchable substrate and at least one stress sensing line. The stress sensing line is disposed over the stretchable substrate and includes: rigid segments and flexible conductive segments. The rigid segments are separated from each other. Each of the flexible conductive segments is disposed between two adjacent rigid segments of the rigid segments and directly contacts the sidewalls of the two adjacent rigid segments of the rigid segments, and the Young's modulus of one of the flexible conductive segments is smaller than the Young's modulus of one of the rigid segments. A display device including stress sensing assembly is also disclosed herein.

Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly including a seat frame assembly including a seat base and a seat back pivotally connected to the seat base. The seat back includes at least one resin fuse arranged in the seat back to indicate structural loading in the vehicle seat assembly above a tolerance loading. The at least one resin fuse includes an aperture extending through the seat back and comprising a flange encircling the aperture and extending generally perpendicular to the seat back, and an indicator bar extending across a diameter of the aperture. Abstract: A transducer for assisting in measuring displacement or strain in an object of interest is described. A plate has at least two end sections for mounting the transducer. It comprises a flexible connection between the two end sections. The flexible connection comprises a plurality of rigid portions and flexible interconnections between the rigid portions for allowing relative movement of the rigid portions with respect to each other. The flexible connection has a central section substantially having a U-shape comprising two rigid portions spaced from each other over a distance and adapted for positioning a strain sensing element at the spacing in between said two rigid portions. The rigid portions and flexible interconnections are arranged so that a displacement applied to the end sections results in a relative displacement at the spacing in the central section that is larger than the relative displacement applied to the end sections.
