The cushion precursor comprises a bag formed of two sheets of flexible plastic film material closed on all four side edges; a frangible seal that defines separate interior cells in a portion of the bag; a first foam precursor composition in one of the interior cells; and a second foam precursor composition in another of the interior cells. One of the cells has a nonfrangible seal wall other than one of the side edges for directing the contents of the cell to mix with the contents of the other cell before the mixed contents enter the remaining portion of said bag.

    摘要: A method for securing a cladding plate to a building substrate by means of an expandable material, such as a hydrophobic polyurethane foam, which is capable of expanding many times its original volume is disclosed. The hydrophobic polyurethane foam is introduced into a space between the cladding plate and the building substrate so as to create an adhesive bond between adjacent surfaces of the cladding plate and building substrate. The foam is introduced into the space either as a free flowing liquid dispensed into a retention basin created in the space or by means of a balloon from which it will expand freely upon fracturing of the balloon. The balloon is constructed so that it will break shortly after the material has turned into foam but before the material has lost its capability of adhering to the cladding plate and building substrate, and before the balloon pressure can overcome the retaining pressure delivered by the cladding plate and building substrate.

The shell has a wall thickness that from the greatest diameter part of the bulging portion increases gradually both upwardly toward the reduced diameter portion and downwardly toward a base of the pin. The plastic for the core of the pin is introduced into the hollow interior of the shell and fills at least a portion thereof by expansion. The core plastic is introduced at such a temperature that an inner surface of the plastic shell is softened at least at some locations by contact with the introduced core plastic to thereby effect fusion between the plastic of the shell and the introduced core plastic.

    摘要: A bumper construction for vehicles constructed of a single strip of metal roll-formed into a completely enclosed tubular member in which a foamed-in-place material is located in and completely fills only a central section of the tubular member a relatively short distance on each side of the central axis of the vehicle. An apparatus is provided for manufacturing roll-formed bumpers partially filled with a foam-in-place material, the bumpers including material defining a continuous closed section defining an open interior and opposing open ends. The apparatus includes a turntable with a plurality of holders including arms shaped to extend partially into the bumpers, and a plug on the end of each arm configured to block off the open interior of the bumper. The holders are pivotally mounted on the turntable so that a bumper can be slipped onto a selected holder, pivoted to an upright position, and then rotated by the turntable under an injector for dispensing foamable reaction injectable urethane (RIM) material. The plug is squeezed and thus expanded to seal off the interior space, after which the RIM material is dispensed into the upright open end. The upright position is held for several seconds to allow the RIM material to cure, and then the holder is then pivoted down so that the bumper can be readily removed. A method corresponding to the above-noted apparatus is also disclosed.
