摘要: A method for forming coatings of constant thickness on sheets of dielectric substrate (10), which may be curved, includes the step of adhesively applying foil (12) to one side of the dielectric substrate. An electrode (16) is set at a constant distance (D) from the side (10fs) of the substrate to be coated. If the substrate is curved, the electrode is preferably also curved. The region to be coated is evacuated, gaseous precursor materials are infused into the gap, and voltage is applied between the foil (12) and the electrode (16) sufficient to ionize the precursors to a plasma state, whereupon the deposition occurs. The foil may be applied as an adhesive-backed foil. The adhesive may be electrically conductive.

摘要: A shrink film comprising a biaxially oriented polymer film comprising polypropylene having a machine direction shrinkage and a transverse direction shrinkage that is less than or equal to 50% of the machine direction shrinkage, and wherein the machine direction shrinkage is greater than 15% and the transverse direction shrinkage is less than 10% at about 140.degree. C. The shrink film is formed by a process comprising subjecting a biaxially oriented polymer film to a treatment which comprises the heating the film to a temperature of about 100.degree. C. to 180.degree. C. The heated film is drawn under conditions to extend it by at least 1.05 times its original length in the machine direction. The drawn film is cooled under tension to produce a shrink film having the specified ratio between the machine direction shrinkage and the transverse direction shrinkage in addition to having a kinetic film-to-film coefficient of friction of about 0.05 to 0.40. The shrink film is suitable for wrapping contoured articles.

摘要: A method for securing a cladding plate to a building substrate by means of an expandable material, such as a hydrophobic polyurethane foam, which is capable of expanding many times its original volume is disclosed. The hydrophobic polyurethane foam is introduced into a space between the cladding plate and the building substrate so as to create an adhesive bond between adjacent surfaces of the cladding plate and building substrate. The foam is introduced into the space either as a free flowing liquid dispensed into a retention basin created in the space or by means of a balloon from which it will expand freely upon fracturing of the balloon. The balloon is constructed so that it will break shortly after the material has turned into foam but before the material has lost its capability of adhering to the cladding plate and building substrate, and before the balloon pressure can overcome the retaining pressure delivered by the cladding plate and building substrate.

摘要: The described process for making a continuous composite material structure (50) starts from a continuous semifinished product (1) made of a reinforcing fiber comprising an upper layer (4) and a lower layer (5) facing each other and mutually connected by intermediate threads (6). It comprises the steps of moving the continuous semifinished product (1) along a working path; impregnating the semifinished product (1) with a resin; coupling a lower surface of the continuous semifinished product (1) with a first ribbon (23); moving one of said layers (4, 5) apart from the opposite layer for bringing the intermediate threads (6) from a first condition in which they are disposed substantially parallel to the two external layers (4, 5) to a second condition in which they are disposed transversally of the external layers; and polymerizing the impregnated semifinished product (1) to make the continuous structure (50).

摘要: A jig that may be used to temporarily position a thin adaptor so that it can be attached near the bottom edge of a small, generally planar member such as a card (e.g., a conventional business card or photo, etc.). The jig controls the placement of adaptors and cards with respect to one another, so that each card/adaptor combination will be neatly aligned and spatially balanced. On one of the adaptor's faces there is provided a strip of adhesive that is adequate to permanently attach the adaptor to the bottom portion of a card. The adaptor's lower portion has a set of spaced notches that are designed to mate with (and be held by) a set of rails on a conventional holder, such as a desk-top holder manufactured by the Rolodex Corporation. A generally planar member that makes up the body of the jig, and a set of spatial locating elements is permanently affixed thereto. The generally planar member may be integrally molded into the top of a plastic box that serves as a storage container for a plurality of adaptors. By combining a storage container for adaptors with an alignment jig for connecting those adaptors to business cards or the like, there will be less risk of a secretary having adaptors on hand but not being able to find the alignment jig to efficiently use them. The storage container also provides an effective way of merchandising both the adaptors and the alignment jig.
