摘要: A biological agent growth-limiting and cross contamination suppressing foaming assembly. The foaming assembly comprises a disposable foamable-liquid transport and foaming cartridge and a housing cooperatively used with the cartridge to produce and dispense foam from the cartridge. The cartridge comprises a low-cost package comprising a molded tray which provides cavities for liquid containing chambers, air and liquid communicating channels, and initially sealed but frangible ports and a liquid impervious sheet which covers an open face of the tray to seal otherwise open portions of the chambers, channels and ports. The housing comprises a vertical wall mounting plate, a cartridge accommodating and servicing cover hingeably affixed to the mounting plate, a pump which provides pressurized gas to produce the foam within the cartridge, and sharpened stems or shafts to open the frangible ports. Foamable-liquid is stored within the cartridge during shipment, foamed within the cartridge under pressure from the pump, and dispensed as a foam from a spout which is a part of the tray.

摘要: A collapsible container (10) comprises a collapsible housing (12) having a nozzle (14) at a nozzle end (16), a base (18) at an opposite base end (20), and a collapsible sidewall (22) interconnecting the nozzle and the base. The collapsible housing defines interconnecting elements (44) for coupling the base to the sidewall for allowing the base to evert and invert, the base having a shape and size substantially corresponding to that of a collapsed interior space (26) of the collapsible container when it is collapsed. The interconnecting elements are positioned approximately at a minimum non-expanded laterally-outward position (32) of the sidewall, and the wall (34) of the base element at the interconnection elements extends almost parallel to an axis of elongation of the collapsible container. The base includes an inwardly-directed protrusion (38) thereon having dimensions corresponding to a nozzle interior space (28) and being positioned to be inserted into the nozzle from the interior of the container when the container is fully collapsed. A one-way valve nozzle device (64) can be positioned at the nozzle.

摘要: A reliable contamination resistant single use disposable medical non-ventilating aspirating device and method. The device releasibly connects to and aligns with an indwelling endotracheal tube to accommodate advancing of an aspirating catheter tube of the device by manual manipulation through a sterile flexible envelope and selective evacuation of lung secretions through a closed and sterile two-position normally closed manually operable valve at the proximal end of the device, while simultaneously accommodating voluntarily respiration by the patient.

摘要: Apparatus for respiratory therapy, which is particularly useful in a neonatal context, and related methods, the apparatus comprising an adaptor for connection to the exposed fitting of an indwelling endotracheal tube of any one of several types to an aspirating apparatus which may include ventilating capacity. The adaptor includes an appendage by which a lavage solution can be selectively introduced into the lungs of a patient through the indwelling endotracheal tube to loosen secretions without necessarily interrupting the ventilation cycle or requiring that the ventilating circuit be broken. The apparatus also comprises a fitting at one end of an aspirating/ventilating apparatus which has low dead space, alleviating the incidence of inadvertent disconnection and trauma induced by unintended displacement of the end fitting and accommodating not only aspiration and ventilation but also monitoring of certain vital indicators to allow prompt medical response to contraindications. The apparatus further comprises a manual stationary insertion guide for introduction of the suction catheter tube into the respiratory system of the patient and control stop structure which accommodates insertion into the respiratory system of the patient of only a predetermined length of the suction catheter tube. The apparatus also comprises structure by which the flow of secretions through the suction catheter tube can be visually monitored.

摘要: A ventilating/aspirating apparatus, and related methods, the apparatus comprising a catheter tube for evacuation of lung secretions wherein the distal end portion of the catheter tube is disposed at a substantial angle in respect to the remainder of the catheter tube whereby entry into the left lung of a patient may be predictably and accurately tended to without appreciable trauma to the patient. A removable angle retainer is provided for maintaining the configuration of the distal end portion of the catheter tube during storage, prior to use. Radiopaque indicia, selectively located within the wall of the catheter tube, is provided by which the entry of the distal end portion of the catheter tube into the lungs and paraticularly the left lung of the medical patient can be insured through accurate monitoring visually or by using available radiological techniques.

摘要: A blood-gas sampler in the nature of a syringe comprising a hollow internally stepped cylindrical barrel and a coaxial stepped plunger having one or more nesting stepped seals at the leading end thereof, the assembly accommodating arterial blood aspiration causing retraction of the plunger within the barrel and discharge of blood from the hollow of the barrel caused by advancement of the plunger. A clip prevents inadvertent excessive retraction of the plunger during the blood aspiration and blood discharge phases.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are disclosed by which a closed ventilating system accommodates multiple access to the respiratory system of an intubated medical patient. Access to the respiratory system is accomplished via one or more access ports through an attached accessory device in order to ventilate the lungs of the patent with gas or gasses, aspirate secretions from the lungs, oxygenate the lungs, visually inspect selected parts of the respiratory system, sample sputum and gasses, sense parameters such as flow rates, pressure, and temperature, flush the respiratory tract with washing solution, and/or administer medication, gasses, and/or lavage. The embodiments of the present invention may have such accessory devices permanently fixed to the adaptor or may be removable and replaceable. Access control means may be provided whereby one or more access ports are selectively aligned with the adaptor in order to allow passage of an attached accessory device therethrough.
