    摘要: An apparatus for providing dynamic and remote tuning of a cryo-cooled bandpass filter is disclosed. The device includes resonator element and a voltage sensitive element as part of the capacitance in a narrow band filter circuit. A varactor such as a GaAs varactor may be used. Alternatively, a capacitor having a voltage-sensitive dielectric such as SrTiO3 may be used. A computer may be connected to the varactor to provide for automated tuning. The voltage-sensitive capacitor may be integral with the resonator element. The invention provides for remote and dynamic tuning of a narrow bandpass filter while located within its sealed cryo-cooled environment.

    摘要: A method and apparatus to control intermodulation in a circuit for filtering over the air signals by creating an asymmetric resonator is disclosed. By creating the asymmetric resonator, the intermodulation from out of band signals is reduced while keeping the filter size relatively unchanged. In general, the intermodulation is reduced by lowering the current density in the resonator (e.g., so as to maintain the linearity of the electrical characteristics of the resonator), and more specifically by utilizing the principle that the inductive elements in a resonator experience the largest current changes. Therefore, the size of the inductor is changed in order to accommodate the larger power. An additional feature of the present invention is that not every inductive element of the filter needs to be enlarged. Generally only the first (or alternatively the first and second) resonators need to be increased in size. Another feature of the present invention is the physical order in which the filters are laid out. Laying out the components with the bandpass filter first can prevent (or significantly reduce) intermodulation generated by those components due to out-of-band interference signals.

    摘要: A coupling structure for coupling a feedback signal to a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) by mutual inductance. In one embodiment the SQUID loop (A) is shielded from external magnetic fields perpendicular to it by a superconducting ground plane (B) at all points except for the pick-up loop (C). A feedback signal is coupled to the SQUID loop (A) by a feedback loop (D) which has a mutual inductance with the SQUID loop (A). During operation, the feedback loop (D) conducts a current in only one direction around the SQUID loop (A). This geometry ensures that the SQUID loop (A) is shielded from external magnetic fields, except at the pick-up loop (C), by the ground plane, and is balanced against fields parallel to the ground plane. The magnetic field produced by the current in the feedback coil (D) is small far from the SQUID (A). The feedback loop (D) is connected to exterior feedback electronics.

    摘要: A method for producing multilayer structures comprised of materials with incompatible processing parameters is disclosed. A bonding layer of arbitrary dielectric constant is applied to each of two substructures. Each substructure is composed of a substrate and at least one epitaxial crystalline layer. Examples of particular bonding materials used are polyimide, fluorocarbon polymers, other organic materials, and glass. The bonding material may be applied like photoresist, or sputtered, or applied in any appropriate manner consistent with the processing constraints of the crystalline materials. Structures formable in this way include superconductor-amorphous dielectric-superconductor and ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor trilayers, as well as microwave resonators and multichip modules.

    摘要: A method and apparatus to provide appropriate coupling between resonators in an HTS microstrip filter are disclosed. Primary and secondary couplings between a pair of resonators are utilized. With a given spacing, the primary coupling is fixed, while the secondary coupling can have different magnitude. In addition, the secondary coupling can have the same phase or opposite phase as the primary coupling. With different combinations, large or small bandwidth filters can be made without very small or very large spacing between resonators. The same cross coupling layout configuration may be designed to achieve either positive or negative results.

    摘要: A three-terminal device constructed from a Josephson junction with one or more asymmetric control lines is disclosed. The device is constructed with high temperature superconducting materials. The junction can be a bicrystal, SNS (Superconducting-Normal-Superconducting) or any other type of high temperature superconductor junction. The control line is either a conducting or superconducting material which is electrically isolated from the junction but inductively coupled into the junction. A portion of the control line is approximately directly above the junction and has current which at least partially flows parallel or nonparallel to current flowing across the junction. The control line current alters the magnetic field within the junction which changes the critical current of the junction. The junction is in a superconducting or resistive state depending on whether the bias current of the junction is greater than or less than the control current. Logic gates, including an XOR gate, are formed using this device and one or more control lines.

    摘要: A low-noise directly coupled dc SQUID magnetometer is disclosed. The magnetometer provides for single layer fabrication and is particularly applicable to high-T.sub.c superconductors operating at 77 Kelvin. A pair of dc SQUIDs are connected and biased in series such that the output voltage modulation with applied flux of the dual SQUID magnetometer, is double that of a single SQUID magnetometer. The bias current is applied to one SQUID and removed from the second SQUID of the pair. The magnetometer pick-up coil is directly coupled to the SQUID pair, providing for coherent modulation of the series-connected SQUIDS and a reduction of flux density noise of the device by a factor of 1/.sqroot.2.

    摘要: A superconducting electronic circuit device, useful when impedance matching is desired, especially suited to microwave frequencies, consisting of a thin dielectric layer with superconducting layers on both sides. A superconductor such as Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide (YBCO) is formed on a first substrate such as lanthanum aluminate. A protective layer like gold is deposited on the YBCO and a second carrier substrate is bonded to the protected YBCO. The first substrate is then thinned into a thin dielectric film and a second layer of superconductor is epitaxially grown thereon to create the desired circuits.
