摘要： A station protector is used in protecting pairs of telephone lines at a station from high voltages or surge currents occurring on the telephone lines and includes a base assembly having an upstanding wall at one end, an arrester mounting section adjacent the opposite end, and a pair of line terminals and a ground terminal disposed between the wall and the arrester mounting section. A removable ground clip assembly is disposed in the arrester mounting section so that a three-electrode gas tube arrester having a line electrode at each end of the tube and a ground electrode therebetween can be mounted on the base assembly to provide protection for the telephone lines. The ground clip assembly contains movable contact assemblies insertable into each of a pair of cavities located in the arrester mounting section and resiliently biased so that a contact rod portion in the contact assembly is normally coupled to the ground terminal. When a case having the three-electrode gas tube retained therein is mounted on the ground clip assembly such that the ground electrode is coupled to the ground terminal, contact shafts fusibly linked to each of the line electrodes cause the contact rod portion of each of the contact assemblies to be disconnected from the ground terminal and to connect the contact shafts to the line terminals. In the preferred embodiment, a cover is slidable over the base assembly so as to protect the base assembly from the weather, insects and tampering.

摘要： A gas tube arrester subassembly for use in a modular component type telephone central office protection system includes a gas tube arrester having a spacer tube with an electrode at each end. One of the electrodes is insertable into an open end of a generally cylindrical shell portion of the gas tube arrester subassembly with parts of the shell portions at the open end being swaged to form securing members to maintain the one electrode in the shell portion. The other end of the shell portion is closed with a generally rectangular slot therein. Removably mounted in the slot is a conductive U-shaped spring member such that the spring member has one leg extending along the inner surface of the closed end. Disposed between the one leg and the one electrode is a conductive disk-shaped contact member to couple the one electrode to the spring member.

摘要： A connector block for mounting plug-in type protector assemblies to protect telephone equipment from high voltage and current surges occurring on incoming telephone lines includes an elongated, relatively narrow mounting panel having a mounting end portion at either end. Disposed along the mounting panel is a plurality of socket groups arranged in a single column and a plurality of terminal hole groups arranged in a single column adjacent the socket groups, each of the terminal hole groups being associated with one of the socket groups. Each of the socket groups contains four line terminal contacts and a ground terminal contact. The ground terminal contact in each of the socket groups has a holder portion extending from a rear face of the mounting panel to which is coupled a single ground terminal bus bar. The ground terminal bus bar is coupled to grounding plates positioned adjacent the rear of each of the end portions. In one embodiment, a fanning strip is detachably mounted to the end portions so as to be positioned along a side of the mounting panel to protect conductors coupled to contacts or terminals in the sockets or terminal holes.

摘要： A connector assembly designed to be mounted on a telephone main distribution frame includes a connector base having a plurality of rows of channels formed on one face by ledges extending between elongated edges of the connector base, a ground plate having a conductive side and an insulating side and a plurality of pedestals. A first set of terminals extends through the pedestals, the ground plate and the connector base into the channels, and a second set of terminals extends through the pedestals, the ground plate and the connector base so as to project from the ledges such that the first and second sets of terminals maintain the connector base, ground plate and pedestals together. A set of ground receptacles extends from the insulating side of the ground plate and is coupled to the conductive side of the ground plate and with receptacle portions of the terminals in the first and second sets of terminals forms rows and columns of socket groups in the pedestals into which plug-in type protector module may be inserted. Along one of the elongated edges of the connector base is disposed a fanning strip through which incoming and central office telephone lines are extended for connection to the pin portions of the terminals projecting into the channels and from the ledges and is disposed a mounting bracket which groups the incoming telephone lines by having them maintained in channels in the mounting bracket by clip devices and which mounts the connector assembly to the distribution frame such that it can be rotated for easy access of the pin portions of the terminals. Covers also may be provided for the channels and for the pins extending from the ledges. In addition, along the other edge of the connector base, an identification plate or a test field assembly may be mounted.

摘要： An automatic number identification device is used in a telephone system to enable a telephone central office to identify from which of two parties on a two party telephone service a call is originating and is coupled to a pair of telephone lines extended from the telephone central office to one of the parties being served by the two party telephone service. A loop current sensor is connected in series relation with one line of the pair of the telephone lines forming a subscriber loop and detects when a specified loop current is present on the one line. When the loop current sensor detects such a loop current, a control circuit, energized by power derived from the telephone lines and coupled to the loop current sensor by a photo coupler, couples a resistive ground to both of the lines in the given subscriber's loop. The control circuit has an on-time delay so that ringing signals on the subscriber's lines do not effect the operation of the control circuit and an off-time delay so that dialing pulses are not distorted.

摘要： A protector module for use in mounting a gas tube arrester or carbon arrester assembly in a telephone central office protection system has an insulating base and a conductive case or cover. The base has a channel with a projecting stop on one side, in which channel is disposed a portion of a line contact. Another portion of the line contact extends through the base and is positioned against an upstanding wall located at one end on the other side of the base, in which side the gas tube arrester or carbon arrester assembly is disposed. The case is secured about the other side and the upstanding wall by a plurality of spherical projections on the base which lodge in holes in the case. When the case is so positioned on the base, a line electrode of the gas tube arrester or carbon arrester assembly makes electrical contact with the line contact and a ground electrode of the gas tube arrester or carbon arrester assembly is coupled to the case.

摘要： A gas tube arrester protector for protecting a pair of telephone lines from high voltage or surge current includes an insulating housing in which is disposed a three electrode gas tube overvoltage arrester having a pair of line electrodes and a ground electrode. The ground electrode is coupled to ground potential and each of the line electrodes is coupled to one of the telephone lines through a terminal line, a supporting terminal and a fusible link. The fusible links are in thermal relationship with the line electrodes and extend through cavities formed by spacers disposed adjacent each of the line electrodes. Whenever the line electrodes are heated sufficiently during an extended fault condition, the fusible links melt within the spacer cavities such that the line electrodes are disconnected from the terminal lines and thereby from the fault occurring on the telephone lines. The gas tube arrester, the spacer, the supporting terminal and a portion of the terminal lines are fixedly mounted in the housing by an insulating potting compound which fills a portion of the inside of the housing. The remaining portion of the housing can be filled with an inert insulating fill or powder.

摘要： A ringer isolator is used in conjunction with a pair of telephone lines to isolate ringer coils coupled to one of the telephone lines from a reference terminal except when a ringer signal is applied to the telephone lines. The ringer isolator includes an isolator such as a neon lamp/photo resistor coupler or a transformer partly coupled between the telephone lines and partly coupled to a thyristor such as a silicon controlled rectifier or a triac. The thyristor is coupled in series relationship between the ringer coils and the reference terminal. Normally, the thyristor is maintained nonconductive so that the ringer coils cannot be energized by potentials on the telephone lines. In response to the ringer signal being applied to the telephone lines, the isolator enables the thyristor to be rendered conductive so that the ringer coils are energized by the ringer signal.

摘要： A two pair station protector is used at a station to protect pairs of telephone circuit lines from high voltage or surge currents and includes a base assembly having an upstanding wall with a pair of notches, in each of which is insertable an insulating grommet and through each of which is extendable said lines. The base assembly also includes an overvoltage arrester mounting section for overvoltage arresters, a line terminal section containing four line terminals and a ground terminal coupled to the arresters and a storage space between the upstanding wall and line terminal section. In order to facilitate the wiring of the telephone lines extending through the grommets to the line terminals and to associate the line terminals with the arresters to which it is coupled, the line terminals are disposed between the upstanding wall and the arrester mounting section such that two of the line terminals are in alignment with one of the notches and the other two of the line terminals are aligned with the other notch. In the preferred embodiment, a cover is slidably mounted over the base assembly to protect the base assembly from the weather, insects and tampering and the station protector has two in line mounting holes and an offset mounting hole to facilitate mounting of the station protector to a mounting surface.
