摘要: An electrode for attachment to a patient comprises a flexible planar member, an electrically conductive member embedded in said flexible member and adapted for contact with the patient, a layer of electrically conductive adhesive applied to the conductive member and the flexible planar member on a side of the flexible planar member facing the patient. Through holes extend completely through the electrode and, optionally, may also extend through the layer of adhesive. Alternatively, a permeable electrode having a permeable member which allows a solvent to pass through to the adhesive may be used to eliminate the need for through holes in the electrode. The permeable electrode may also be coated with sodium chloride or potassium chloride and used in conjunction with an applicator containing an alcohol gel which liquefies upon contact with the sodium chloride or potassium chloride. A transdermal patch comprises a layer or compartment where the medication is stored and a layer of adhesive through which the medication diffuses. Again, a plurality of through holes are formed completely through the product and, optionally, through the adhesive as well. An applicator containing the solvent can be placed in direct contact with the top of the electrode or the top of the transdermal patch. In this manner, the solvent can be directed through the through holes formed in either the electrode or the patch to release the solvent and to facilitate its removal.

摘要: An ink-jet bottle and valve system which delivers ink-jet ink to an ink-jet printer apparatus having an ink reservoir. The system has five, main components: (1) a bottle, (2) a housing, (3) a valve, (4), a cover, and (5) a vent tube. Coupled to the ink reservoir, the housing has a nozzle which extends into the ink reservoir and defines a channel through which ink may flow from the bottle to the ink reservoir. The top surface of the housing has a cutout defining a pair of valve rotation stops. The housing also has a bottom surface which includes a lower vent and a lower ink passage each opening to the channel of the nozzle. The valve fits snugly and rotatably within the housing. The internal surface of the valve is threaded to couple the valve to the threaded neck of the bottle. The bottom surface of the valve has an upper vent and an upper ink passage. Finally, a top surface of the valve has a projecting tab. The tab rests in the cutout of the housing and cooperates with the pair of valve rotation stops to limit axial rotation of the valve within the housing between (i) a first position where the tab abuts one valve rotation stop and in which the upper vent and the upper ink passage of the valve align with the lower vent and the lower ink passage, respectively, of the housing, and (ii) a second position where the tab abuts the other valve rotation stop and in which the upper vent and the upper ink passage of the valve are out of alignment with the lower vent and the lower ink passage, respectively, of the housing. The cover engages a flange on the housing and captivates the valve within the housing. Finally, the vent tube allows air, required to equalize the pressure in the bottle, to pass directly to the area at the top of the bottle above the ink and assure even ink flow.

摘要: A safety catheter assembly holds a catheter onto an assembly housing, to prevent exposure of the point of a used needle. A needle extending from a needle assembly. A needle point lock has a housing, a locking arm with a hook extending outside of the housing and a rear tab. A wheel within the housing is pushed against a ramp surface and the rear tab of the locking arm, by a spring. Alternatively, a spring biased retainer may be used. The needle extends through the housing and a hole or slot in the locking arm, and into the catheter. The hub of the catheter is held against the housing by the hook on the locking arm, until the needle is withdrawn into the housing, releasing the locking arm and allowing the hook to separate from the catheter hub. After the point of the needle has been withdrawn into the housing, it cannot be pushed back out as the needle slot moves out of alignment with the needle point. The needle also cannot be withdrawn from the back of the housing as the tab on the locking arm moves to allow the wheel to engage the needle with a wedging action. The catheter cannot be accessed until the needle point is withdrawn and safely locked within the housing.

摘要: An integrated introducer and drive rod system used to position and attach a spiral-shaped, biological needle probe to a fetus during labor and delivery. The system ensures that the sharp, pointed, probe (typically, a fetal spiral electrode) remains protected in a retracted position inside the introducer until attachment to the fetal scalp is desired. The flexible drive rod of the system has a "C"-shaped safety ring with an outside diameter slightly less than the inner diameter of the introducer at a point on the introducer; a "C"-shaped radial web with an outside diameter only slightly larger than the inner diameter of the introducer creating an interference fit between the drive rod and the introducer; or a "C"-shaped segmented rib that engages the rear end of the introducer. The introducer has an inner diameter sized to create an interference fit with the drive rod; a forward interior wall with an inside diameter slightly less than the outside diameter of the safety ring; a ramp on the front end of the introducer; a longitudinal slot disposed along its entire length; or a combination of one or more of these structures. In combination, the structures of the drive rod and introducer resist but (upon exertion of a predetermined force on the handle of the drive rod) allow translation of the drive rod within the introducer.

摘要: A body, which may have a tubular or dome-like shape with an open top and bottom, has a wall with one or more elongated slots extending along the wall from the top toward the bottom. A cauterizer blade may be drawn through a slot in any suitable orientation to wipe debris from the blade. A mounting, such as a pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet, may be used to attach the body to a surgical drape. A slot may have two parallel inner edges for wiping or scraping the cauterizer blade. The distance between the inner edges defines the slot width, which should be approximately equal to the width of the cauterizer blade to be cleaned. The sides of the slot may be beveled to form chisel-like inner edges that enhance the wiping action. At the top of the body the slot may also have a "V"-shaped notch to guide the cauterizer blade into the slot. The adhesive sheet may be attached to the open bottom of the dome-shaped body. Both sides of the adhesive sheet may be coated with adhesive to both adhere the body to the surgical drape and to trap in the adhesive any debris that falls into the body.

摘要: A packaging system for a fetal electrode assembly. The assembly includes an electrode which can be attached to a fetus. The electrode is coupled to an electrode wire. The electrode wire extends through a drive tube and terminates in a connector end. A flexible guide tube receives the drive tube. The packaging system includes a handle and a clip. The handle is attached to the rearward end of the drive tube. The handle has a forward section which detachably mounts inside the rearward end of the guide tube. The handle also has a passage for receiving the connector end and a slot for securing the electrode wire when the electrode is not in use. The electrode projects from the forward end of the guide tube when the forward section of the handle is mounted inside the rearward end of the guide tube. The clip has a head mounted to the handle and a tail which is wedged between the rearward end of the guide tube and the rearward end of the drive tube to secure the handle when the forward section of the handle is not mounted inside the rearward end of the guide tube. The electrode is retracted into and protected by the guide tube when the handle is secured by the clip.

摘要: A disposable electrode assembly comprising a pair of thin, flexible, foam pads having adhesive on their facing surfaces. Leads from remotely located fetal electrodes are secured between the pads by the adhesive and are in electrical contact with conductive plates also located between the two pads. The lower pad carries a body electrode which is in electrical contact with the patient when the assembly is attached to the patient. Such attachment is assured without using an adhesive on the lower pad which contacts the patient's skin. The conductive plates and the body electrode are electrically connected to a fetal monitoring device by thin conductors also secured between the pads by the adhesive. The thin conductors combine in a cable assembly adapted to connect to the fetal monitoring device.
