    摘要: A layered-up veneer board is formed by layering veneers up to a predetermined height such that the fiber directions of the respective veneers are alternately perpendicular to one another, and the layered-up veneer board is compressed by a compression device, to remove moisture contained in the veneers. Wood is a material in which the tensile strength in the fiber direction of the wood is higher than the tensile strength in the direction perpendicular to the fiber direction. With this layering scheme, even when stress is applied to the veneers and causes elongational deformation of these veneers as a result of compressing the layered-up veneer boards in the layering direction, elongational deformation of the veneers in the directions perpendicular to the fiber directions thereof can be reduced.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for measuring three-dimensional shape of a wood block are disclosed. A planar light beam is projected by a light emitting device against a wood block rotatably supported on its tentative spin axis in such a way that two continuous lines extending parallel to the tentative spin axis for the entire block length are illuminated on the outer peripheral surface of the block. The block with the illuminated lines is photographed at a plurality of its angular positions by a imaging device. Based on data of the photographed line images, distances between the tentative spin axis and each of the illuminated lines on the outer peripheral surface of the block are computed at a plurality of cross-sections of the block along the tentative spin axis. Distances from the tentative spin axis to the outer peripheral surface of the block, including shapes of various irregularities on the surface of the block, are measured.

    摘要: An apparatus for centering a log to allow an optimum yield axis and a maximum radius of rotation of the log to be calculated more accurately than conventionally possible. The angle of rotation of a log M is detected by a rotation angle detector that is engaged with a preliminary axis c about which the log M is rotated. A contour of the log for calculating the optimum yield axis of the log and a contour for calculating the maximum radius of rotation of the log are measured separately. The contour for calculating the optimum yield axis is measured in a fixed-point manner by measuring the log at a plurality of certain measurement points with beam reflection scanners. The contour for calculating the maximum radius of rotation is measured in a comprehensive manner using swing-angle detectors engaged with contact-swinging detection members provided individually in the plural measurement sections.

    摘要: A method and an apparatus of wood pressing usable in manufacturing glued laminated wood such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) using a number of wood veneer sheets are disclosed. A hot press used for wood pressing includes a pair of heating plates which are disposed one above the other and have pressing surfaces facing each other. The paired heating plates are both movable toward and away from each other. In operation, firstly one of the heating plates is moved toward the other heating plate to a position where the pressing surface of the one heating plate is spaced from a surface to which a veneer sheet is to be glued by a distance corresponding to the thickness of the veneer sheet. Then, the other heating plate is moved toward the one heating plate until a desired pressure is produced pressing.

    摘要: A method for locating an optimum peeling axis of a log and a maximum radius point on peripheral surface of the log with respect to the located optimum peeling axis and an apparatus for practicing the method are disclosed. A plurality of swingable members are provided, each member having a contact surface which is swingable in contact with the peripheral surface of the log thereby to follows the peripheral profile of the log while it is being rotated about its preliminary axis. Angular positions of the contact surfaces are measured with respect to a reference position at a number of angularly spaced positions of the log. On the basis of the measured angular positions of the contact surfaces, radial distances of the log from a plurality of predetermined locations on the optimum peeling axis to selected contact surfaces are computed for comparison such radial distances. The distance having the greatest value is regarded as the maximum radius point of the log.

    摘要: A method of stacking a veneer sheet carried by a conveyer onto a pile of similar veneer sheets is disclosed. Veneer sheet is separated from the conveyer thereby to allow the sheet to drop from the conveyer toward the pile. The veneer sheet being dropped is restrained by an elongated flexible member which is lowered substantially simultaneously with the above separation and at such a speed that the flexible member is brought into frictional engagement with the veneer sheet at at least one side thereof which extends in substantially perpendicular relation to the length of the elongated flexible member. The flexible member is lowered until it is bent in pressing engagement with the veneer sheet then dropped onto the pile at the above side thereof. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

    摘要: A centerless rotary veneer lathe comprises a slidable backup device which is disposed on the opposite side of a peeler log from a knife carriage of the lathe. The backup device has a pair rotatable rolls located one above the other with the axes thereof extending in parallel to the axis of the log. The paired rolls are disposed such that the axes of such two rolls are spaced at substantially the same distance from an imaginary line extending perpendicularly to the axis of the log and in parallel to the direction in which the backup device is moved. In operation of the veneer lathe with the rolls set in contact with the log periphery, the knife carriage and the backup device are moved synchronously at such a variable controlled rate that causes peeling of veneer with a predetermined thickness.

    摘要: A veneer-pressing apparatus comprising a pressing device provided with at least three pressing bodies disposed movably from a non-pressing position where the pressing bodies are vertically spaced apart from each other to a pressing position where the pressing bodies are close to each other; endless belts each adapted to be intermittently moved in a direction opposite to that of the neighboring endless belt, thereby forming a forward transfer passage between a pair of facing surfaces of the neighboring endless belts and a backward transfer passage which is opposite in transferring direction to the forward transfer passage; and a pressing member which is capable of rendering the pressing bodies provided with the endless belt to move from a non-pressing position to a pressing position to press a veneer with a predetermined pressure. This apparatus further comprises a first transfer means disposed on an upstream side of the forward transfer passage in the pressing device, a transferring direction thereof being the same as the forward transfer passage; and a second transfer means disposed on an upstream side of the backward transfer passage in the pressing device and capable of being moved in both forward and backward directions as well as in vertical direction.
