A composition for cosmetics is provided, which has a UV shielding effect and which can produce a cosmetic having good dispersibility, an excellent UV shielding effect and excellent use feeling, cosmetic effect, long-lasting cosmetic performance. The cosmetic obtained by using the same is provided. The composition for cosmetics includes (A) microparticulate titanium dioxide, (B) one kind or two or more kinds of magnesium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide. The composition for cosmetics preferably contains further (C) a clay mineral. The compounding weight ratio among (A):(B):(C) is preferably 20 to 60:3 to 40:0 to 77. In addition, the composition for cosmetics is preferably one in which a mixed powder of (A), (B) and (C) is lipophilically treated.

There is provided a powder comprising a base substance usable as a powder for cosmetics, a hydroxyapatite and a zinc oxide, preferably a powder obtained on coating the surface of the substance with hydroxyapatite to form a hydroxyapatite coating layer on the surface of the base substance and fixing zinc oxide to the hydroxyapatite coating layer thereof, suitable for use in cosmetics. The powder has a light reflection curve similar to that of the surface of the skin so that it exhibits good skin feeling and is superior in long wear effect for makeup and antibacterial effect. This powder is also superior in adsorbing, solidifying or congealing the sebum components or body odor components, and is useful as effective components for a sebum-adsorbent agent, a body deodorant or the like in addition to the cosmetics.

A dispersion of a moisture-retaining agent for use in a cosmetic article is disclosed which is characterized by having dispersed in the moisture-retaining agent an inorganic ultraviolet intercepting material having the molecules of the moisture-retaining agent adsorbed thereon by a mechanochemical reaction. This dispersion manifests an excellent ability to disperse the inorganic ultraviolet intercepting material, affords a highly effective protection against ultraviolet light, and exhibits excellent stability in a cosmetic article.A cosmetic article containing the dispersion is also disclosed.

By coating the surface of a powder comprising a silicone resin and/or an organic powder with a specific hydrophilizing agent, such powder is hydrophilized. Such coated (treated) powder has extremely great dispersibility (ease of dispersion) and very good dispersion stability (long-term dispersion stability with lapse of time) in aqueous dispersion media, particularly under acidic and alkaline conditions, specifically at pH 3 through 13. Using the surface-treated powder, additionally, a dispersion with good dispersibility (ease of dispersion) and great dispersion stability, preferably for cosmetics can be provided. The use of the surface-treated powder, or the use of the dispersion can provide further a cosmetic excellent in dispersibility and dispersion stability and further in re-dispersibility and dispersion stability with lapse of time and smooth feeling as compared to the related art when selecting aqueous cosmetic as an agent form.

A surface of particles of a silicone resin is treated with a low-molecular organosilicon derivative, with or without a water-soluble cationic polymer to improve the hydrophilicity of the silicone resin. The thus-treated powder is quite excellent in dispersibility (readily dispersible) and in dispersion stability in an aqueous dispersion medium. The use of the surface-treated powder provides a dispersion for cosmetic, excellent in dispersibility and dispersion stability and the like. There is provided a cosmetic, particularly a skin cosmetic, excellent in imparting transparency (transparent feeling) to the skin, conditioning the skin texture and making wrinkles and hair follicles imperceptible when applied.
