摘要: A system and method enabling precise range estimation and time synchronization between a first object such as a vehicle having a primary communications mechanism and an interconnected first controller, and a second object having a secondary communications mechanism and an interconnected second controller. The primary sends communications into the environment and the secondary receives them; the secondary then sends replies to the primary. The communications have information for determining range between the two objects and for comparing the second object's internal clock with a more accurate clock of the first object. Repeated exchanges of communications between the two objects enables additional precision of range as well as time synchronization information.

摘要: A device and method of use for the calibration of a detector. The calibration device includes a first source configured to produce first electromagnetic energy EMR. A first diffuser is connected to the first source and is configured to accept the first EMR and provide a first diffused portion of the first EMR. An integrating sphere defines an interior and is optically connected to the first diffuser, and is configured to accept the first diffused portion from the first diffuser into the interior. An exit port connected to the integrating sphere is configured to pass at least a portion of electromagnetic energy. A thermal mechanism is configured to adjust and maintain the temperature of at least the first source. The integrating sphere is configured to pass only a second portion of the first diffused portion of the first EMR from the first diffuser to the exit port. In another embodiment, the calibration device has an arm, an actuator, and a module. The module supports at least a first source that emits electromagnetic energy, a thermal mechanism, and a controller. The actuator is configured to move the arm and module to a calibration position enabling the first source to be within the line of sight of an external detector, while the controller is configured to control the thermal mechanism enabling precise temperature regulation of the source and therefore the regulation of the emitted electromagnetic energy. When the device is not in the calibration position, the actuator is configured to move the arm and module to a stowed position, protecting the device from ambient electromagnetic radiation and harm.

摘要: An ocean iron fertilization (OIF) method and system for electrochemically controlled release of iron in an ocean to stimulate growth of phytoplankton to increase CO2 sequestration by the ocean. The system includes a cathode submerged or floating in the ocean; an iron or iron-producing anode submerged or floating in the ocean spaced apart from the cathode; and a power supply unit connected to the cathode and the anode. The power supply unit drives electric current between the cathode and the anode such the anode generates oxygen (O2) and ferrous iron through electrolysis to be released in the ocean, and the cathode produces hydrogen (H2) and hydroxide (OH—) species through an electrochemical reaction at the cathode.

The system having a channel for constraining and presenting the liquid to a detector, the detector having at least one transmit electrode for emitting electrical current to at least one receive electrode. Circuitry provides the current input and received electrical signals measurement capacities. Particles passing the receive electrodes alter the received electrical current according to the particle's dielectric properties, the circuitry records the received signals and discerns a particle's nature, most often plastic from non-plastic, from the differential signal of these received signals as a function of frequency.

The weather monitoring station further includes at least one lower mast section that is coupled to the upper mast section, and an anchoring system that is coupled to the lower mast section, wherein the anchoring system includes at least one subsurface anchor for inserting into a ground surface within a littoral zone of a coastal area.
