摘要： There is disclosed medical apparatus of the type for use in surgery such as transanal endoscopic microsurgery, as well as methods of providing access to, inspecting and enabling surgery within a body passage. In one embodiment of the invention, medical apparatus in the form of a rectal expander (10) is disclosed, the expander (10) being adapted for location at least partly within a body passage such as the rectum (12) of a patient (14), the expander (10) having a leading end (18) and an access area in the form of an opening (20) for access from the expander (10) into the rectum (12), at least part of the opening (20) being spaced from the leading end (18), and the expander (10) being controllably movable between collapse and expansion positions, for expanding the rectum (12).

摘要： The invention relates to a palpation device and a palpation simulation device for use in surgery, such as minimal access surgery. The invention also relates to a method of palpating a body part, and to a method of simulating palpation of a body part. In one embodiment of the invention, a palpation device (10) is disclosed which comprises a first palpation assembly including a palpation member (12) and a light source in the form of an LED (14) and a second palpation assembly including a palpation member (16) and a light detecting means, in the form of a camera (18), for detecting light emitted by the light source (14). At least one of the first and second palpation members (12, 16) is movable with respect to the other member, to palpate a body part such as a patient's colon (20), disposed therebetween.

In one embodiment, there is disclosed transportation apparatus (10) for transportation of an inspection device (12) within a body cavity (14), the apparatus comprising: a carrier (16) for insertion into an opening (20) of the body cavity (14), the carrier (16) moveable between a collapsed position and an extended position where the carrier (16) extends along a length of the cavity (14); and a guide member (18) coupled to the carrier (16), the guide member (18) adapted to be carried into the cavity by the carrier (16) when the carrier (16) is moved to the extended position, such that the guide member (18) acts as a guide for transportation of the inspection device (12) within the cavity (14).
