    摘要: This invention relates to non-hydrolyzable, non-irritating, hair, skin and textile substantive quaternary salts of p-dialkylaminobenzamides having the formula ##STR1## wherein R' and R" are each selected from the group of C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl; n is an integer having a value of from 2 to 3; R is an alkyl radical having from 10 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each selected from the group of C.sub.1 to C.sub.2 alkyl, and X is an anion. These benzamide derivatives are active sunscreening agents which are usefully employed at a concentration of from about 0.5 to about 10 wt. % in a formulation requiring protection against the harmful effects of sunlight, such as skin burn, hair damage, color fading, etc.

    摘要: A process for upgrading gasolines and other hydrocarbon mixtures. The hydrocarbon mixture is contacted with a large pore zeolite catalyst in order to crack n-paraffins to form olefins and lower molecular weight n-paraffins, to cause the olefins to react with benzene in order to form alkylbenzenes, and to catalyze the isomerization of the n-paraffins to form i-paraffins. Preferably, all of the above reactions occur in a single reactant mixture in the presence of a zeolite catalyst having ten and/or twelve membered ring-type structures. The process of the invention reduces the benzene quantity of the hydrocarbon mixture and increases its octane number.

    摘要: A single stage process, with recirculation of reactants, is provided herein for making N-vinylpyrrolidone or N-vinyl caprolactam at a high reaction rate and selectivity and at a predetermined conversion per pass. In this process a reaction mixture is formed by saturating a non-aqueous, liquid mixture of recirculating lactam, vinyl lactam and catalyst with acetylene at low temperatures and pressures to provide a high concentration of acetylene in the liquid, pumping the saturated solution into a reactor, reacting the mixture as a single liquid phase, cooling the reaction product, withdrawing a portion of the cooled product, recirculating the rest into the reaction mixture, and continuously feeding additional lactam and catalyst therein.

    摘要: This invention relates to an improved process for the manufacture of cinnamate compounds, particularly sunscreen agents, useful in cosmetic skin and hair care formulations. The process comprises: (a) dissolving a water insoluble C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxy benzaldehyde and a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl acetate in a common hydrocarbon solvent; (b) reacting the resulting solution in the presence of a strong alkali metal-containing base under mild conditions to form a mixture containing the corresponding C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxy cinnamate, the alkali metal salt of the enol corresponding to the C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxy cinnamate, the alkali metal salt of a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxycinnamic acid, and a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkanol; (c) acidifying the resulting mixture with from about 0.5 to about 1 mole of a strong polybasic acid per mole of base to release acetic acid, to convert the alkali metal salt of the C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxycinnamic acid to the corresponding C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxycinnamic acid and to form an alcohol suspension of an alkali metal salt of said strong polybasic acid; (d) esterifying said acetic acid with a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkanol and stripping the resulting acetic acid ester from the mixture; (e) reacting the remaining C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxycinnamate and C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxycinnamic acid with a C.sub.5 to C.sub.14 alkanol in the presence of said strong polybasic acid alkali metal salt suspension at a temperature of from about 60.degree. to about 130.degree. C.; and (f) recovering the C.sub.5 to C.sub.14 alkyl C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkoxy cinnamate as a product of the process.
